If the Nationals moved back to Montreal, would anyone notice?
More seriously, how long do you think DC will be able to support a baseball franchise?

Once they get a real baseball team (since both the O's and Nats stink) I think the DC area will support a team. Huge metropolitan area, two good ballparks, good transportation system to move the fans. I really believe the problem is more that the teams are bad than the fan base in the nation's capital.

Being from Montreal I can tell you that this team was well loved for quite a long time. Unfortunately every time something good was going on for this team one of 2 things happened: Either MLB went on strike or the team sold off it's star players and the fans were left with nothing to watch. In 1981 Montreal ended up being one of the split season winners. In 1994, having their best season in history, another strike came up. Add in the players Montreal later traded away, such as Pedro Martinez, Moises Alou, Larry Walker, etc., the franchise gave the fans no reason to keep coming back.
Montrealers would notice but probably not turn out to support them again.

I think the Nats will be a surprisingly improved team next year close to .500 maybe even a couple games over. They are a very good hitting team and have a decent young pitching staff if they can get some veteran relievers and their young starters continue to improve they will be an exciting team. Once they start winning fans will start to fill the stadium and once they build a fan base they will be set. So I think they will last in DC.

Who are the Nationals and where is Montreal? *only joking*
I'm sure the people in Washington would notice yes.

They won't be going back to Montreal.
If and when they win, DC will support them.
