Why does anyone think a government run health care system would work?

Government has proven time and time again that they CAN NOT run health care systems: Medicaid and Medicare are bankrupt, social security is bankrupt, and quite frankly, the VA is a national disgrace.Wait six months for a damn cane? Wait for treatment for cancer until that treatment would no longer be a viable option because, hey, you'll be dead before they can even start it? Why would anyone believe THIS plan would be any different? I think the Obama administration should fix what is already in place and then trot out this supposedly "fantastic cure-all" for the nation's health care problems.

Because the government does not know how to run a business. That's why they are in politics. A government run business is an oxymoron.

Works in every Western European industrialized nation.

Stop knocking Medicare. Last week I discovered a suspicious spot on my arm, called my M.D.'s office, was seen by my doctor the next day. No waiting. . Prompt diagnosis and treatment . What happens to a person who doesn't have insurance? The only option is the ER.

I have also benefited from socialized medicine for almost 20 years in Europe. Excellent care, no waiting and included disaster insurance, if you can't work because of your condition you automatically get the equivalent of a paycheck. No bankruptcies due to illness or accidents.

Your statement "Wait for treatment for cancer until that treatment would no longer be a viable option". Perfect description of the actions of the American health insurance companies!

Medicare and Medicaid are bankrupt? They seem to be working fine for those on them. The only reason they are not funded properly is because previous administrations stole money from that fund. As far as the VA goes, I was just there this morning. Talking to my doctor I was told the VA is much better than the private sector because of the level of care the vets get. Obama has been picky about this since he has been in office. This doctor has worked in private and VA and prefers the VA.

I live in the USA and were doing it already in my town and state as the government got everyone to get a health care which they pick for you and if you were on medicines before the change you will have to go to generic or just quit.I was on 8 medicines and my insurance what the government gave does not make my type of medicines so i had to cold turkey quilt' as they were for asthma and bronchitis' and i have seen many who lost their heart meds also as they costs too much and insurance took it off their lists. I like obama but this is going to be a mad house and we'll be stuck as we are in my state. Many people will end up sicker and many dead for not giving us the mess we need and your stuck as other insurances will not have and make many meds also as they the drug companies and insurance company will lose a few million if they add generic drugs.Hold on tight ' were in for one hell of a ride here.

When you have a President who cuts funding to programs down to the level of 1963 to offset tax breaks for the top 1% wage earners then the quality of those programs will suffer.

DEEP, WIDESPREAD CUTS IN DOMESTIC PROGRAMS OVER

NEXT FIVE YEARS UNDER ADMINISTRATION BUDGET

Under the Administrations budget, overall funding would be cut over the next five years in nearly every broad area of the federal budget related to domestic non-entitlement programs, according to a new analysis from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Funding would be significantly lower in 2009 than 2004 (in inflation-adjusted terms) for non-entitlement programs in every area except defense, international affairs, and science and space.

By 2009, funding for non-entitlement programs in areas such as national resources and the environment, veterans health benefits, health, and agriculture would be 10 percent to 20 percent below the 2004 funding levels, adjusted for inflation. Transportation programs, as well as education, training, and social services programs, would be cut by 7 to 8 percent over this period.

The proposed cuts are so large, an accompanying Center report shows, that by 2009, total funding for domestic non-entitlement programs outside homeland security would fall to its lowest level, measured as a share of the economy, since 1963.

As bad a government health care may or may not be is not relevent compared to what the private for profit insurance companies have been doing.

What the for profit Health Care Industry is selling is a false sense of security to those who are healthy and paying them premiums then when the person is sick and needs bills covered the companies refuse to pay the bills. The person who is ill has to fight them in court to receive the service they had been paying for while they were well and now have need of it.

The Industry makes profits decisions at the cost of people's lives.

My preference would be single payer system which is what is used in France with success or Universal Insurance which is used in Germany. Both of these countries appear to have already recovered from the recession.

However, a public option is a compromise of choice to avoid disrupting the already established for profit health care system. This would keep the for profit Insurers "in check" and lower costs for every one.

Without that option there is a chance that the for profit Industry may make reforms only to jack up the costs higher then anyone except the very wealthy can afford.

"We'll pay for it with the money we save by eliminating the waste in medicare and medicaid." Oh, how interesting!! That means there has been this much waste all along but no one bothered to do anything about it!

IT IS NOT GOING TO BE A GOVERNMENT RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM.

You just said exactly what Obama said last night. He said (I'm paraphrasing) we shouldn't start over. We should keep the system we have now. We should just fix what is broken with our current system. He said that he had no interest in destroying the insurance corporations. He just wants to hold them accountable.

You should have watched the speech, sparky.

Source(s): WE WILL NOT HAVE A CANADIAN STYLE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM.

So what did the Republicans do to fix those problems over the last 8 years? Oh thats right...NOTHING.

Obama actually WANTS TO SOLVE PROBLEMS.

Dont tell me Obama cant do anything just because GW Bush was an idiot. That doesnt prove anything

I've lived in 2 European countries and combined private/public option insurance works very well.

I've never waited once for anything, no lines, and it costs 1/4th as much. I pay higher taxes, but still not as much as paying 30% of my income cost in the US just to insure my family.

FIRST OF ALL, THERE WILL BE NO NATIONALIZATION OF HEALTH CARE!

[I go to the Dallas VA Medical Center and the government doesn’t even run THAT!]

There is NO "OBAMA CARE" The plan[s] are being built by congress.

The ONLY THING THE GOVERNMENT WANTS TO DO IS ADD AN OPTION:

NON-PROFIT INSURANCE FOR THE POOR & UNEMPLOYED

MORE CHOICE DOES NOT EQUATE WITH ‘TAKEOVER’!

There are 45 million Americans who have NO health care options except Emergency Rooms!

The USA is 37TH in HEALTH CARE!

These are NOT my idea of the best!

THE WORST POSSIBLE CHOICE IS TO DO NOTHING!

    Health care costs are:

Increasing 2-3 times faster than wages

Currently eating up 18% of our money

AND, WILL DESTROY OUR ECONOMY UNLESS WE FIX IT!

Want to know WHO DOESN’T want ANY CHANGE?

    THE INSURANCE COMPANIES!

THEY EAT 40% OF EVERY HEALTH CARE DOLLAR.

For what we are already paying, WE COULD INSURE EVERY MAN, WOMAN & CHILD IN AMERICA WITH ZERO DEDUCTIBLE, ZERO COPAY COVERAGE!

OK, SO HOW WILL THEY PAY FOR IT?

    >DRUG DISCOUNTS

    >ELIMINATING WASTE

    >LOCKING UP PEOPLE WHO COMMIT FRAUD

    >CONCENTRATING ON PREVENTATIVE CARE

[Currently, the only option for the poor is the E.R. at county hospitals and that’s THE MOST EXPENSIVE CARE THERE IS!]

If they do not pay taxes and taxpayers will give them everything, why should they not be for this system? Let the rich white folk pay all the bills.
