What is the origin of the word Menopause?

Where did the term come from? Who came up with it? What's the story behind that word?

Does it have something to do with the Manarche period?

1872, from Fr. ménopause, from Gk. men (gen. menos) "month" + pausis "a cessation, a pause," from pauein "to cause to cease." Opposite of menarche "onset of menstruation," 1900, from Ger. (1895), from Gk. arkhe "beginning."

Well Meno- like month, referring to menstruation. And pause, meaning stop. Stopping your period. It's that easy. It happens to 50 year olds. Lol. I don't know who came up with it.

I always thought that it started with men. Have you noticed that most of women's health problems start with men? MENopause, MENstration, and finally MENtal illness....don;t get upset, IT is a joke, no matter that it contains quite a lot of truth!!!! ----SMILE-----
