Carrier vs Amana Furnace?
We have gotten multiple quotes from several HVAC people on a furnace replacement and we have settled on a reputable HVAC guy who suggested two furnaces one an Amana the other a Carrier.
Is one better than the other? Price was about the same.

If the Carrier model has the laminated polypropylene secondary heat exchanger then go with the Amana.
They had problems with those heat exchangers, I believe Amana's have a stainless steel secondary heat exchanger.

Honestly, Amana is made by Goodman which has gotten a pretty bad name over the years but now they produce a really good piece of equipment. I sell Trane, Carrier, Amana and Armstrong and to tell you the truth I'd put the Amana up against any of the other three any day. Amana does indeed have a stainless steel secondary heat exchanger as has been mentioned here. One thing about Carrier, it's good equipment but down the road after the warranty runs out, OEM parts are notoriously more expensive than most other brands.
Carrier as well as all other manufacturers offer limited lifetime warranty on the heat exchanger in their 90+ efficient furnace, but as with nearly all others offers only 20 year warranty on their 80+ efficient gas furnace.
Actually, Amana IS made by Goodman. As an Amana dealer these are the kind of things you have to know. Every Amana furnace I've ever sold has a "Goodman manufacturing" sticker right inside it. So yes, Amana IS made by Goodman, they purchased the Amana name several years ago.

Actually, Amana was purchased by Goodman a few years ago. They aren't actually made by Goodman. Brands have pretty much equalized in quality over the last few years. Every manufacturer has "Good, Better and Best" models. The Carrier secondary heat exchanger issue has been remedied and is no longer an issue.
Biggest concern is having a heat loss calculation done to make sure the furnace you get is sized for your home. Going by square footage or using the old furnaces btu size is a hacks way of installing a furnace.
Go with a reputable company that will perform a load calc and you'll be better off than worrying about brand names.

Both are good units from what I see. I would recommend that you use a single stage furnace and a higher Efficiency coil and condenser. You will get The 16 + seer and all the benefits. also check out the warranty you get. Good Luck
