Is it really popular opinion, or is it the few and the loud? (re: health care)?

Do most Americans really want to have no/short wait times for health care at the expense of those with no health care?

It seems that there is a strong opinion that basically, "if you're not smart enough to pay for your own health insurance, then why should I help you?" mentality with a lot of Americans. Also, they enjoy the fact that millions are not getting any health care as this makes getting their own care more convenient.

Is this really the popular opinion?

And the opinion that people with pre-existing conditions basically lost the health lottery and now deserve a death sentence because even if they wanted insurance, they couldn't get approved?

Most people are smart enough to know that the nation's health-care system needs a serious reform. Those who are kicking and screaming like children about it are just being greedy with their money. Any way you look at it, that's going to cost us something. There's no getting around it. Somewhere, sometime, people are going to have to pony up some cash if we want to improve our nation. Re-modeling costs money.

I personally believe Obama has made a good plan, and I support it, even if it means higher taxes. I think it's pathetic that people are dying, even children, just because people don't have money to pay outrageous medical bills. No one can afford them, and if you don't have your health, you don't have anything. Also, we spent so much more money in Iraq and Afghanistan everyday than we would on this health plan.

Some don't trust our current President as a matter of principal. A few would object and deny even if he called the sky blue.

Some don't trust the current political party in power. They would like to see that party fail in every endeavor in the hope that their own party will require power. Some would rather see pain and suffering than success for the current leadership with the rationalization that in the long run we will be better off with them in charge.

Many buy into the propaganda being spewed out in every possible media outlet by the Insurance lobby. Several billion dollars have already been spent to kill any bill regarding health insurance reform and there is plenty of money left to keep fighting. Whats funny about that is that the Insurance companies have already spent enough to insure everyone without coverage for quite some time. Particularity if you believe their statistic they spread that less than 5 million legal citizens can't qualify or afford coverage.

And some people actually don't care if someone dies for them to be seen slightly quicker. But those are a minority.

The sad truth is that most Americans aren't intellectually capable of forming an informed and logical opinion on a multifaceted issue which transcends economic, political and social life.

Popular opinion as (mis)represented by polls says less about what people want than it does about the relative efficacy of competing propaganda campaigns attempting to frame debates to serve their own interests.
