The short answer is that Jesus was personally raised from the dead by the God of Israel. All His disciples were Jewish.

On the day of Pentecost, the disciples were praying Joel's prophesy was fulfilled. Praying to the God of Israel, the fulfillment of the prophesy, and being filled with the Spirit of God like the prophets of the Tanakh does not constitute the start of a new religion.

Likewise, the same manuscripts that make up the Tanakh make up the OT.

So if you want to avoid the problem of the protests of the non-Messianic Jews, don't use the term Yom Kippur. Use the term, "Day of Atonement." As you aren't using the Hebrew, you can't be accused of fraud and stealing ...like the logic that Christ doesn't mean Messiah. If it did, Christian would mean Messiah-ian.

    Hope this helps

    Edit

Allonyoav, expert of Judaism since his birth ....as he only credits his mother being Orthodox as his source, rants.

***No- a Christian should NOT observe Yom Kippur. It is meaningless for anyone but Jews.***

Obviously, Allonyoav expertise extends past anything he is familiar. The next thing he might say is that only those who believe like Rabbinic Jews that the God of Israel can no longer speak and act can read Hebrew scriptures out of fear they might be practiced by those lead by the Spirit of God like the prophets.

Allonyoav says: ***The whole point of a lamb being sacrificed in Egypt was that it was an idol***

If you listened to Allonyoav, you would have to conclude that we blow the shofar to remember our victory over the sheep we slaughtered in Egypt instead of the binding of Isaac. He is just as likely to say something bazaar like king David was a pagan because David said, "The LORD is my shepherd. I shall not want." because Egypt was the first and only encounter Israel had with sheep in-spite of what the Jewish scriptures say. Rabbinic Judaism must blindly fill all holes with the new version of Judaism started by a disenfranchised Rabbi who left Jerusalem rather than simply accept the importance of sheep through out Israel's history.

Therefore, Allonyoav separates himself from Joseph who is recorded as saying:

Genesis 46: ***33 And it shall come to pass, when Pharaoh shall call you, and shall say: What is your occupation? 34 that ye shall say: Thy servants have been keepers of cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and our fathers; that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians.' *** http://www.hareidi.org/bible/Genesis46.htm#34

Everyone needs to Repent & everyone needs forgiveness, SO yes I

believe that all should practice the Day of Atonement/Yom Kippur.

These are YHWH's Appointed Days, All mankind would do well to

    hear & obey.

Remember Jonah he was sent to the Gentiles to Repent:) 1:1-2 YHWH

said their wickedness had come up before Him. Same word as you

shall have no other gods in my face the 1st Commandment.

Jonah 3:4 Jonah cried out" Yet 40 days & Nineveh shall be overthrown"

Vs 5 And the people of Nineveh believed YHWH Proclaimed a Fast,

put on sackcloth from the least to the greatest.

    Sounds familiar doesn't it.

YHWH's ways are for all who will come under His covering & into His

    family the Children of Israel.

Well, I have been reading about it and it sounds like a lot of it requires a congregation. However I think that a day spent reflecting on my life and what needs to change in my life is a really good idea. Fasting and denying myself other pleasures would probably help me to focus my thoughts on the One who can help me to change me.

The question is: what is the Feast of Atonement/Reconciliations symbolic of? What is it prophetic of?

The Feast of Atonement (or Yom Kippur) is symbolic of the Day that Yahshua (Yahweh in the flesh) returns, the Day on which the Jewish people will look upon Him whom they pierced (Zechariah 12:10), it is also the Day the world will look upon Him... and that's if they survive the Tribulation. In order to survive through that Day one has to be filled with God's Spirit, because people who still don't believe that Yahshua is the Messiah will simply rot away (Zechariah 14:12) when Yahweh returns in fullness of power. Joel prophesies that since the initial arrival of the Messiah God has poured out His Spirit (i.e. at the fulfilment of Pentecost, in 33 AD, in Jerusalem exactly 50 days after the Feast of Unleavened Bread which is symbolic of Yahshua spending the day in the grave removing our sin, the yeast, from us). But this Joel prophecy is more specific in that it prophecies that the Jewish people will begin to believe that Yahshua is the Messiah during the Tribulation.

What will trigger the Jews to believe that Yahshua is the Messiah? Well, the first wake-up call will be with the Feast of Trumpets (Yom Taruwah), which is symbolic of the Rapture to occur prior to the Tribulation, as confirmed by Leviticus 14:33-53 (yes it's there, just look a little deeper than the surface!). However, Isaiah 57 tells us that Rabbinal Judaism won't even consider the Rapture being the fulfilment of the Feast of Trumpets, since those taken away to be spared from are those who believe in and love Yahshua. Fortunately there will be Jews who will realise the truth, and slowly they'll come to belief in Yahshua. But the big turning point of Jews coming to belief during the Tribulation is when the Islamic nations try wipe Israel out, but Yahweh will come to Jacob's defence as recorded in Psalm 83 and Ezekiel 38 and 39. Also, Daniel 11:36-45 describes the Antichrist's role during this Islamic invasion, but that's another story...

But the Day will come when Yahshua will return, and it will be fulfilled on the specified day (10th) of the month (7th) in the relevant year. To find out which year it will be literally fulfilled we must come to know Yahweh's 6+1 plan, that one day equates to a period of one thousands years. If we take the year 33AD to be the end of the 4th Millennium we can know that the end of the 6th Millennium will be 2033 on our Gregorian calendars. Hosea prophecies that Israel will be revived after 2 days (read: 2 Millennia), and on the 3rd day (aka: the Millennial Reign of Yahshua, or the Millennial Sabbath) they will be restored.

Can a Christian "observe" the Feasts? Yes, we should and must observe the Feasts if we are children of Yahweh. Unfortunately Christianity labels the Feasts of Yahweh as being Jewish and irrelevant for Christians, but the opposite is true, they are Yahweh's Feasts and He has requested all His children to attend them. But we must come to understand what they mean in a spiritual and prophetic sense. We must not turn them into pointless religious events, but must take the time on those days to rest and reflect on what Yahweh has done and what He will still do. Simply put: the Feasts are dress-rehearsals, they are word-pictures designed to teach us what Yahweh has done for us.

Why not. I'm Christian & my wife is Jewish and we celebrate both Christian & Jewish Holidays.

Yom Kippur is the day of atonement. It's a day where you do nothing but reflect on the events of the past year that you would have done differently, whether it be something that you did wrong or something you should've done but didn't do. It's a day of confession. So, I don't see a reason why you can't participate in Yom Kippur, even if it is just going to confession on that day.

When Jewish believers and christian believers hang out as friends some would do so.

If thgey go to a congregation that is Jewish, have knowledge of the bible they likely will observe the holiday together.

satan presently rules this world (luke 4:6-7) within the limits set from Heaven ( job 1 and job 2 ).

adam and eve made that choice for us when they disobeyed Yah and listened to satan's advice and stole the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden which He warned would kill them (genesis 3:3)

they died within the day (genesis 2:17) of 1000 years that they ate it.

they all got thrown out of the garden in eden and were told to make their own life for the next 6000 years so we could learn by hard experience that we cannot live in peace in spite of how smart we think we are or how hard we try on our own.

because of what they did in bringing death into the world for them and us it became necessary for Messiah to die for our sins and pay the penalty in our stead so that we can live forever if we accept His death for us symbolized by the sacrifice of the other goat picked by lot (leviticus 16:8)

matthew 24:22 shows that the wars humans cause will get to the point of destroying all life on the earth-this is when Messiah returns to end our experiment of human self rule and remove satan the azazel goat (revelation 20:1-3 / leviticus 16:21-22)and replace him as the King of the earth and cause those that seek after Him to become at one (atonement) with Him and help Him restore this earth back to its former beauty and peace (acts 3:17-21) the restitution of all things spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.

  • Followers of Messiah Y'shua should absolutely celebrate Yom Kippur, or Day of Atonement.

Yom Kippur is one of seven feasts all those who follow the Holy One Of Israel are told to follow. Look closely at the following verse and then tell me "WHO"S FEASTS ARE THEY"?

Lev. 23:1-2 The LORD spoke again to Moses, saying, “Speak to the sons of Israel, and say to them, ‘The LORD’s appointed times which you shall proclaim as holy convocations — My appointed times are these:

"The LORDS appointed times". Need I say more.

I have all kinds of info on the feasts on my site if your interested or email me and I will send you detailed info on all the feasts.

  • 1 decade ago

I am a born again Christian...who honours ALL of God's appointed holy days.

Jesus honoured God's appointed holy days. Why can't we?

If you will take the time to study God's appointed holy days, you will see how they point to Jesus. And you will broaden you understanding of our Messiah and Saviour!

    Good for you.
