All of the sudden, at 36 years of age, I got a nasty bout of acne on the side of my face. WHY?
Out of nowhere, the whole side of my face looks like a pizza went through WW2. What is causing this? I've never had acne like this- ever.

Sounds like i might be an allergic reaction. Did you change any products? Shaving cream, aftershave, laundry detergent?
Allergies like that can actually cause acne-like legions.
Think hard, then when you figure out what it is, discontinue the use of that product.
Wash your bedding and pillows immediately.
