Does green mucus in the nose neccesarily means "infection"?

My daughter is getting over a cold and has had a runny nose for the past week. Her daycare provider is pushing the issue for me to get a doctors appointment becuase of the color and says that she (my daughter) is not suppose to be at daycare with a runny nose of that color. My thing is, she doesn't have a cough or fever or anything of that nature that can be contagious, she just has a runny nose that is a yellowish/greenish color.

Do you think that is enough reason to keep your daughter at home? I am a single mom and I work so taking off of work for "runny nose" is not that serious to me. What you think?

Update:

njmom30 - that is exactly what I am going to do. I have a doctors appointment this evening and i will get a dr note saying that its okay for her to return to daycare. its just such a hastle to take off of work...grrrr!

If the daycare wants you to keep her home... then that may be what you need to do. I agree that a runny nose isn't serious enough to keep a child home for... maybe you can try to get an apt with the doctor tonight when you get home from work and that way you can bring her to school tomorrow with a note from her doctor saying she's fine to be there.

    Good luck!

while green mucus is coughed up it potential that, there is a few form of inflammation of the bronchi or the bronchial tubes. This situation is widespread as bronchitis, that's often brought about via irritants including hypersensitive reactions, air pollutants, smoke or viral infections. those irritants reason the sinus membrane to offer greater advantageous than the well-known volume of mucus. No it does not mean infection. It just means that it's been sitting in there a while and is now coming out. I would not keep my child home just for a runny yucky nose. That happens so often you'd be staying home half the time and never be able to work!!

The fact that it isn't an infection (it isn't) doesn't mean it is not contagious. Most season colds are not an infections yet everybody catches it and starts sneezing etc. Daycare has their rules, you need to follow them.
