Is it even slightly possible that Dark Matter and Dark Energy is a description of the Spiritual universe?

http://nasascience.nasa.gov/astrophysics/what-is-d...

"What Is Dark Energy?

More is unknown than is known. We know how much dark energy there is because we know how it affects the Universe's expansion. Other than that, it is a complete mystery. But it is an important mystery. It turns out that roughly 70% of the Universe is dark energy. Dark matter makes up about 25%. The rest - everything on Earth, everything ever observed with all of our instruments, all normal matter - adds up to less than 5% of the Universe. Come to think of it, maybe it shouldn't be called "normal" matter at all, since it is such a small fraction of the Universe."

We can't see it, but it affects things we can see. It's greater than the universe that we can see, yet remains invisible.

Update:

If you say "No", then unless you want me to look at you like you are a know-it-all, then please provide sources and reason.

If you say "I don't know", then you are in the same boat I am in.

Update 2:

Liberal Mind-Slave,

I don't know who that is. The symbol is a homemade X-Men symbol, as I sometimes think of myself as a mutant.

Update 3:

To some of you,

I see hypothetical intolerance reaches across many lines.

Update 4:

I did not and will not give a thumbs down to anyone answering this question.

Update 5:

Stevie M,

You asked,

"But what the heck is a "spiritual universe"? And if some theory "described" it, how would we know?"

W have the definitions in a dictionary to describe what spiritual things are. We might start there!

Dark matter and dark energy are already part of the existing objective (physical) universe. We actually know very little about them, but we do know they exist because we can observe their effect on ordinary matter and energy. Eventually, we will have a better explanation for why the expansion of the Universe appears to be accelerating and the "dark" terms will become obsolete. For now, they are really just place-holders for a cosmological mystery we haven't solved yet.

There is no evidence of a "spiritual universe." Frankly, spiritual entities were invented by our ignorant ancestors to explain what they could not rationalize any other way--the origin of consciousness and conscious awareness. Now we know that such things are the perfectly natural business of a living brain. There is no longer any need to insist on supernatural explanations for the origin of "mind." It's our living brain that makes us conscious and self-aware--not an imaginary immortal soul.

Addendum: Here's something interesting I just found. It claims that Dark Energy is really caused by the rate that time passes slowing down. The long assumption of a constant flow of time may be erroneous. It'll be centuries before this issue is finally settled.

    No.

Since dark matter and dark energy are physical phenomena, they don't "describe" anything. I think maybe you're asking whether modern astrophysical theory describes the spiritual universe. As for that...

We know a little bit about dark matter and dark energy.

But what the heck is a "spiritual universe"? And if some theory "described" it, how would we know?

I guess it's possible that some not-yet-understood phenomenon corresponds to something that hasn't even been defined yet. But I'm not going to get excited about the possibility.

    ___

Edit: I know it is possible to describe poorly-defined terms with other poorly-defined terms. Possible, but not very useful.

In order to make a scientific claim you need an "operational definition," a definition with measurable characteristics. Without an operational definition, you can't even claim that a phenomenon exists.

So how do you operationalize "spiritual universe"?

I often ask myself the same thing. The answer is, right now we simply cannot know. I always hope that maybe one day before we die, science will explain more and we can work out if it does or doesn't all tie together. Whether spirituality is as delusional as some religions can be, just like old ideas of people well before out time, for example the sun is god. Back then they would have thought it to be real, but if they lived in our present time, they would know it isn't true. Maybe we all cling to spiritual or religious ideas because we know that we are going to die and we desire more meaning, more purpose, a goal. When we die, that could be it, no being reborn, no heaven etc OR it's also possible that as science reveals more it will become more compatible with spirituality. Buddhism in my opinion seems as though it could be close to the truth, or it could also be a myth (reincarnation and nirvana)

There was a time when we didn't know what pulsars were. We could have assumed they were beacons put up by space aliens, or God communicating in some kind of divine Morse code. Eventually, we figured it out, and it turned out to be a natural phenomenon. If we can observe the effects of dark matter and dark energy, the odds are that they are natural phenomena that just haven't been explained yet.

But you're right, I don't know. I'm just saying that historically, the science of today has been the "important mystery" of yesterday.

No, this is ridiculous. As dark matter and dark energy are 100% observable in some form or another it cannot be grouped in a category that is consists entirely of 100% unobservable beings or things.

    possible? sure!

    Probable? no

    any way of knowing? no

do i have any facts? no, but at least I will be one of the few posting in the religion section that will admit to it

we dont really know anything about dark matter so anything else is just speculation. anyone who says: " YEAH! take that athiests!" because if dark matter is an idiot.

All I'm saying is watch out for what answers you accept

Dark Matter and Dark Energy are like science of the gaps in my opinion. We don't know what makes up the universe so we'll make up some words for it. God is not a form of matter than we can observe or measure. I would not equate him with any of man's imaginary scientific entities like those. Don't get me wrong, they are interesting theories, but they're exactly that, theories. Hundreds of years from now, they will likely find that these theories were as wrong as the ones from the 1800's that we now laugh at.

Yes, it's SLIGHTLY possible. Most things are at least slightly possible. The existence of a god or gods is slightly possible. So is the existence of fairy-land slightly possible. Therefore it's slightly possible that a spiritual realm exists and that dark matter is part of it. There is...as for the other things I mentioned...no hard evidence for it, but that doesn't preclude it from being slightly possible.

Dark energy is a black hole with no matter left around it to feed from. Every galaxy has a black hole in its Centre, once all matter is consumed, it becomes invisible. But if it passes in front of another bright object, it will obscure it because its super gravity can bend light.

    Practicing Shaman... quantum physics rocks.

Interesting prospect, but there is no possibilty that anyone can offer anything more than conjecture on the subject. "Dark energy" is a loose term to describe a hole in our knowledge. It does not presuppose magic.
