Why didn't the police immediately arrest the Hofstra freshman that claimed she was raped?

Did they ever arrest that woman in the Lacrosse case?

In this case, it's not certain that the woman will NOT be charged at all.

Not all criminal cases begin with an immediate arrest.

two things to keep in mind:

In NYS, a prosecutor must deal w/2 successive deadlines, the Statutes of Limitation (how long after an event a person can go w/o being charged); and "speedy trial" - how long after a person is charged must the DA be ready for trial. The statutes of limitations can last years - but speedy trial is only a few months (3 for a misdemeanor). See NYS CPL 30.30.

Some practical considerations - the only reason these guys got off was because one of the accused thought to take a video of the sexcapade. How many of us believe that the video was taken solely to avoid a rape charge? The irony of the situation is that had these young men been more discrete, the case would be continuing. That's the kind of perversity that defense lawyers like to sell juries.

Please post responsibly - there is no indication that the woman is not going to be let off. Also, wasn't she also african american? Are we now claiming a social double-standard for young black women?

I agree that she should be charged as she has slandered those men, however, I don't think that this particular incident had anything to do with the colour of the men's skins. I have read reports of group orgies where females have complained that they were forced into them and the men and the female were white, the white men were arrested just as quickly.

This issue is about a person slandering others and tax payers' money being used to arrest the "criminals". She should be charged for lying and she should have to pay a fine or commence community work with this incident noted down in her file. This isn't an issue about race or gender, it's about mentally ill people.

Since they did not prosecute the woman that charged Duke's soccer team why should they go after this girl. I guess it was ok they arrested all those white guys because the black girl lied but now the show is on the other foot so the punishment is different.

Policemen were afraid ,she might accuse them also . it was safer for police to let her escape.

This is standard method adopted by girl members of the robing gang to extort money in India

Women/girls who make false accusations in order to cover up their sluttiness should be arrested and put in jail for the amount of time that someone who is guilty of rape gets....they should also be sterilized so they don't pass on the "stupid" gene.
