Whirlpool washer makes banging noise when it tries to spin?

I have a Whirlpool top loading washing machine (model LSQ9544KQ0) that has started making a loud banging noise when it tries to spin. It washes and agitates just fine.

About a month ago the pump was leaking and I replaced it. Now this! The washer is about 8 or 9 years old.

From what I have learned on appliance repair sites, if the motor coupler was broken, it would not agitate, which it does.

Any help would be appreciated.

Update:

It will wash and drain, but will not spin and make the banging noise. Hope this is more clear.

Update 2:

It's not out of balance. It bangs and won't spin when empty.

Update 3:

Bearing and gear assembly? could you be a little more specific?

Update 4:

I removed the motor and the coupler is good.

Most washers and dryers are noisy. The inside, the big drum like part that holds the clothes and spins is supposed to be loose-ish because it moves around a lot. It could be too loose though. Or something fell behind it and is banging around maybe.

The bearing and gear assembly is worn off.

    Replace them with new spares.
