To college football fans what team do you think is playing ...?

the best right now?

I can go down the line and point to flaws in almost every top team (i.e., Florida - weakness is lack of good receivers, Texas - defense doesn't look that good, Bama - not so hot in the red zone due to inexperienced quarterback, Ole Miss - don't know in that who have they played, Penn State - Big 10 enough said, Cal - one dimensional on offense, LSU - offense and defensive lines are sub-par and the quarterback is inconsistent). I think The U (i.e., Miami) is playing the best football right now. They remind me of the old days under Jimmy Johnson in that they have tremendous speed on both sides of the line and one heck of a good quarterback and I am a die-hard SEC fan if you are wondering. Your thoughts?

Update:

To Miami Landsharks - True but Tech doesn't have a running game to speak of in that they get it done through the pass. As far as Miami, no team has a tougher schedule for the first four game and yes, if they get through that undefeated then in all likelihood they will play for all the marbles.

Update 2:

To Michael - I am talking about the top teams and we all know how the Big 10 has fared against top opponents in the BCS conferences.

Update 3:

To Michelle - I agree with you in that Tennessee is looking better with each game. However, we are talking about what team is playing the best right now and UT is 0-2. Since you are a UT fan, the biggest question for the Vols is who is going to be the starting quarterback next year. I haven't seen where Kiffin has a recruited a top-notch quarterback. So, you may have to wait a couple of years before UT joins the elite teams in the SEC.

Update 4:

To Longhorn Mental Fan - You are correct in that all I know about Texas is what I have seen on television. My comment was directed at how I think their defense would play against a top notch offense. Tech is one-dimensional.

As far as the Heisman I think you are referring to Best from Cal. Here again, Cal is one-dimensional offense and if a team were to stack eight men in the box to stop the run game then Cal may not fare well.

Update 5:

To Felicia C - The defense for Oklahoma has improved over last year but the offensive line has come up way short. Bradford never had time in the pocket. With Miami coming up next then we'll see if the Sooners are back on track.

Miami and Cincy have looked the best.

Oklahoma was obviously not ready for their first game with the new line shuffling and receivers. they have pitched two shutouts since. If you counted game #1 as pre-season, it would be them. Defense is scary!

I won't even get into a sparring match with you about Texas' defense. Since you are not a fan then you have no clue how well our defense has improved but you asked which team and not which defense is looking good so I will go with Miami as well. They look pretty consistent, especially the way they have played the last couple years. Looking forward to watching the Miami and OU game. Also got to give props to UCLA's running game. Looks like we have another contender in the Heisman race in Best and if Tebow and McCoy don't pick it up then I don't even see them getting invited.

Texas defense doesn't look good? I know they gave up 400 passing yards, but they held them to negative rushing yards and forced many fumbles. They just need some consistency. But anyways...I think right now, Miami (FL) is playing the best. If they can beat VT and OU, and they happen to go undefeated, they by far deserve the chance to play for the NC this year. I mean beating 4 top 25 teams in a row at the start of the season is amazing if they can pull this one off.

If you are an SEC fan then why not mention UT? Other than Crompton, that bumbling idiot, they are on thier way back to the days when they were a powehouse. The defense against Florida was amazing. We are all satisfied with a 10 point loss to them because Urban Meyers was outcoached and he knows it. It was a victory for TN and when Tebow isnt holding up that team next year, you wait!

Miami is playing pretty good yes, but their ranking is too high for now.

Every team will have their flaws, there is no perfect team. Overall, Alabama is playing the best football in the country.

    btw:

Don't diss the Big Ten, they have a winning record against every Div. 1 conference this decade and lead the SEC 12-10 in head to head bowl match ups this decade as well.
