Spiritually Speaking, Why Do YOU Block People On R&S?
Vot blocks people to keep track of who's who- because the little red circle enables me to ID them even if they change names/avatars. I don't want them on my Qs, and I likewise stay away from theirs (even though they haven't blocked me)
None of the people Vot has blocked has EVER (before they were blocked that is) emailed to take her "to task" for anything, despite what they might claim. And neither is Vot "scared" of anyone on here lol

BONUS Q: If you have some people blocked, don't you just love the Yamster for the "Block User" feature?

Different reasons. Some are trolls, Some say the same thing over and over again, some like to advertise shoes, and some show vitriolic hatred in their answers.

I do not have anyone blocked, Vot
If I want to keep track, I would keep a notebook, and I don't have time for that. I love everyone....I don't always like what they say, but psychologically speaking, I find this place interesting. Some people here are very sad and lonely. Others are very full of life. And even those who have lightning in them, I appreciate what they have to say. I can learn many things here, and I find it a great help in my religious and spiritual journey.
when it is too much though, I hang out in the health or beauty area.
I do occasionally revel in the thumbs up/down feature though...makes me feel like Tiberius Caesar

(1 Corinthians 15:33) Do not be misled. Bad associations spoil useful habits.
(1 Corinthians 5:11-13) But now I am writing YOU to quit mixing in company with anyone called a brother that is a fornicator or a greedy person or an idolater or a reviler or a drunkard or an extortioner, not even eating with such a man. 12 For what do I have to do with judging those outside? Do YOU not judge those inside, 13 while God judges those outside? “Remove the wicked [man] from among yourselves.”
These scriptures say it all. I use the block feature to mark those that used to be within the congregation of God, but are now out of it. I do NOT want to have anything to do with those that hate Jehovah and His people. By blocking them, I know who they are and avoid them, and they cannot spread their lies on my questions.
Also I block those that continue to use in their answers anti-JW web links and other apostate web sites. By their using these sites, it tells me that either they were brought up around the truth and are now fighting against it, or that they have been doped into believing the apostates and are now being used by them in their bidding, (even if they do not realize that they are being used in this way).
Jesus gave us the warning to stay away from these kind of people for a reason, and I for one am not going to disobey Jesus just because some people say that I shouldn't block someone. I am here to spread the "good news of the kingdom of God" and help others come to an "accurate knowledge of truth". (Acts 8:12; 1Timothy 2:4; 2Timothy 3:7)
Go Yamster, Thanks YA!

I only block those who spout hatred about what I love most. I have no desire to communicate with anyone who doesn't respect and honor God. Apostates, and some anti-witnesses are blocked by me, for the same reason you site. I want to keep track.
I, like you, Vot, have never been scared of anything here. After all, it's just the internet...

No, I never do.
If someone wishes some information, I answer.
If they write to just harass me, I don't bother to reply. Particularly if it comes with a string of cuss words. I figure they are linguistically challenged, and that's about the only way they can communicate.
I'm never challenged by any good argument, in this section or in any of the others that I answer.

I actually haven't blocked anybody here who didn't block me first. Im not rude to people, so I think I usually get blocked for not giving them the answers they want or pointing out that their point was stupid (and Im always right :D).
I love how you talk about yourself is third person! Aha, Im gonna start doing that now.
BONUS Q: I do not get it..... update me.
- Bible TruthLv 51 decade ago
Yep! I block all the obvious Apostapposers. When they show their nasty colors I block them right away.
Yamster? Now I have to go block someone to see the Yamster.

I once asked why people had me blocked/added/whatever....http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AoSg3...
I am a Christian, one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Ultimately, unless an ID tells you point blank "I blocked you because...." you never truly know why.
I personally have been blocked PLENTY of times.
One ID, a certain "lioness" has repeatedly blocked me. When I asked a question about blocking, she answered claiming to LOVE my answers. When I pointed out how silly that was, Claiming to enjoy my answers, WHILE having me blocked, the block was removed, but soon reactivated. When I asked another query about blocking, I got a message from the same user, that she blocked me because I reported her answer, so now we both know, etc. etc, etc....what's funny/stupid about it is, I asked the question, the person answered, I had no reason/desire, nor legitimacy *in my mind* for reporting it, and didn't report it, however that ID "knows" that I did.....
"KNOWING" something can often be a dangerous/sad thing.
As for "judging". The idea that people don't/shouldn't judge is incorrect. While we should be able to accept that EVERYONE has the right to make their own decisions *to a point* we ALL judge on some level.
When my brother decided to leave his wife, for his mistress, I "judged" it to be wrong of him, to HAVE a mistress, my right. Did that stop him from doing it?? No, his right.
When people were perverting "his father's house" Jesus "judged" them to be wrong, and even chased them away.
Personally, I, for now, have an empty "blocked list" because I at times ask questions in Y!A/R&S, and wish that these be open to the members, ALL members, in said section. As it was, I mostly blocked for "tracking purposes" as periodically accounts will go inactive for a year or so, then pop back up, and it's nice to know who the "players" are.
Blocking prevents the Blocked individual(s) from:
Adding the person who blocked you as a "Contact"
Viewing the questions/answers in the profile of the person who blocked you
Answering the questions asked by the person who blocked you
Supposedly it also blocks you from sending messages to that person *though I think I've been messaged by people who I had, at the time, blocked, so not positive on that one*
So, in other words, out of the Millions? of questions asked, a small number are private, as far as you are concerned, REALLY not a big deal.
The only time I think it's especially silly/abused *the block function* is when someone will go out of their way, at least in appearance, to block purported/appearant members of Group A, then ask questions directed to Group A, then complain about not getting answers from Group A. Sadly I imagine this happens with most groups on Y!A.
EdIT
As another answer mentioned, I do still block some IDs if they "add" me and are *in my opinion* just trying to cause trouble, I remove the block afterwards.
When I first? mentioned not having anyone blocked one troll *again, in my opinion* started adding me repeatedly, finally he/she gave up though:D

I don't know about (((Yamster))), all that blocking has done for me is red flag them when I see there answers, I put thumbs down without reading them(read one-you read them all).
It also alerts me to them when they ask questions(normally to jest or belittle us), so I bypass their questions.
From what I can tell that's all that blocking does, makes me aware of those I wish to avoid, I don't know if I have been blocked, does not matter, they no like me, I no want to talk to them.
Would like to know more on (((Yamster))), send info pleasssssssee!

I block those whom I suspect to be report monkeys. You know the type -- they answer questions that might not exactly follow TOS with "Reported!" or "This is spam." Anyone who answers in such a way cannot be trusted, and I certainly don't want them accessing my account.
Yesterday, a friend of mine made 2 very nice posts concerning someone she knows who will die unless she receives a lung transplant. Four people answered her in such a way that I promptly blocked them. Within a short time, her posts were deleted. No one should have the authority to remove another user's post.
Yes, I love Yammie for implementing the block feature. He got something right.
