Where in the Bible does it state that the Heavens and Earth were created in 6 days?

Genesis 1

The Creation

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

I'm talking about the "Heavens" and the Earth. Not anything else.

I don't see a 6 day time frame given within this sentence.

Science says that the Heavens and the Earth are millions of years old. The only contradiction to this is some say the Heavens and Earth were created in 6 days, "because the Bible says so". Well, I'm reading/studying Genesis and the first sentence clearly states that the "Heavens and the Earth" were created, period. I doesn't say "God created the Heavens and Earth in six days".

This confusion is creating a lot of resistance between Science and the Bible, and the majority of proponents for each side seem to fail to grasp this very simple sentence that makes up, Genesis-Chapter One-Verse One.

It's pretty bad when misunderstandings about the Bible start with the first sentence, and it's so plainly written!

Hi, it does not, but rather the opposite.

The correct hebrew states that the earth had existed for a long time barely supporting life and in turmoil. That is the correct translation. I should know, I am one of the top experts in this language.

The reason your bible says different, is because no one would buy a correct translation.

    Hope that helps

    Try reading Exodus 20:11

"For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it."

The entire context of Genesis 1 (not just Genesis 1:1) is validated in Exodus 20:11. The earth and the universe were created in 6 days. Genesis 1:1 says He created it and the rest of the chapter explains what He did on each day.

First off, I think it's wonderful that you realize that the FIRST sentence of the Bible is in direct contradiction with evolution. I DID NOT say science. Genesis chapters 1 and 2 explain quite well how we got here, and it is all quite logical to someone who accepts God as all powerful.

God's power and authority is what the fuss is really all about. I have no problem with anything scientific, since God created the laws of space, time, motion, physics, quantum mechanics, gravity, light, logic, engineering, mathematics, thermodynamics, genetics, nature and even life itself. Science does NOT contradict scripture, nor does scripture contradict science.

Atheists attempt to delude themselves into belief that God doesn't exist, and they use the pseudoscience/religion of evolution to do it. Unmasked, this is nothing other than an attempt to discredit scripture, beginning with the first sentence of the Bible.

I agree. Gen1:1 The heavens and earth were created in the beginning and it is not stated when the beginning was. Gen1:3--5 Light and darkness were created on the first day, nothing being said about the beginning of the heavens and earth. ..... Gen.1:2 States that the earth was without form, and void, but Isaiah 45:18 it states that God did not create the heavens and earth in vain (waste), He formed it to be inhabited........

  • Just so you know, there's more to A Tale of Two Cities than "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times."

In other words, there's more to the story than one sentence. And that sentence does not contradict the six day period. There are plenty of contradictions in the Bible, but that isn't one of them.

You need to get past the first verse and read the whole chapter. When you bake a cake you don't just put a cup of flour in a bowl and say "Where is my cake?".

Someday you will get to Exodus 20:11 and it shall be made clear to you.

    can't you read?

in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth

then God brought forth light, the first day, etc to the 6th day

The Earth was created on day 1, however, the other components (water, sky, animals, people) were created on subsequent days.

When you get to Genesis 2:2 you'll have your answer. I'm guessing that will be some time around next Christmas.
