  • Can atheists truly study Genesis Chapter One with an open "scientific" mind?

  • Atheists, how many of your issues start with Genesis Chapter One?

Your issues about how the creation of this world is told, and how "evolution" is some brilliant idea created by man and set aside as something so unique and special that it could not be used by some being with the power to create?

Einstein proved that, Time is relative, and Genesis clearly states the world was set up to evolve.

So, Atheists, why do you see conflict with what is stated in Genesis Chapter One?

  • Where in the Bible does it say that the first 6 days of Creation were 24 hours long?

The focus is the first 19 verses of Genesis, Chapter One.

    http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesi...

Notice there is no mention of light until verse 3:

    (3) Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light.

    (4) God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness.

    (5) God called the light day, and the darkness He called night And there was evening and there was morning, one day.

    _______

Okay, it says that God just created light and named the absence of it, darkness. Still no mention of Celestial Bodies providing territorial rule!

    Verses 13-19,

    (14) Then God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years;

(In 14, it mentions the lights are to "seperate" day from night. And to be for "signs" for seasons, DAYS and years.)

    (16) God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also.

(In 16 the two great lights are created to Govern day and to Govern night.)

    then...

    (17) God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth,

    (18) and to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good.

    (19) There was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.

At best, not until the 4th day, is there mention of "governing bodies", which referred to the sun and moon. Up until know, God had asked the Earth to produce only vegetation. Not until verse 20, is there sign of "animal" life, (which is a subject for another question later).

So do you see what I'm saying?

It is not that Science is wrong (although it has been before), but our intepretations of what interpreted the length of a "day" and a "night" in the first verses of Genesis that have not been contemplated correctly!.

It is not until verse 16 through 18 that a design for distinguishing time (as we know it) is set in place.

Up until then, the length between Night and Day had not been defined.

So, the eath is billions of years old, the discoveries of science say so. And the Bible never said that the defined cycle of time being measured by the sun and moon began until the beginning of day 4! And the "heavens (Universe) and Earth" and "seed bearing plants" had already been created!

Do you see what I'm saying?

  • Where in the Bible does it state that the Heavens and Earth were created in 6 days?

    Genesis 1

    The Creation

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

I'm talking about the "Heavens" and the Earth. Not anything else.

I don't see a 6 day time frame given within this sentence.

Science says that the Heavens and the Earth are millions of years old. The only contradiction to this is some say the Heavens and Earth were created in 6 days, "because the Bible says so". Well, I'm reading/studying Genesis and the first sentence clearly states that the "Heavens and the Earth" were created, period. I doesn't say "God created the Heavens and Earth in six days".

This confusion is creating a lot of resistance between Science and the Bible, and the majority of proponents for each side seem to fail to grasp this very simple sentence that makes up, Genesis-Chapter One-Verse One.

It's pretty bad when misunderstandings about the Bible start with the first sentence, and it's so plainly written!

  • Atheists, how does Cognitive Dissonance effect/influence your beliefs?

Science is about discovering, not creation. And if you want to differ, even if Science "creates" something new, it was merely a discovery of elements interacting with each other.

Discoveries in Science have started pointing towards 2 things:

    1) There was a beginning to our Universe

    2) Life started rapidly on Earth and not via millinnia of purely random reactions.

Render unto Science that which is Science, a proven method for investigating our universe.

Render unto the Book of Genesis, that it is about Creation.

    Cognitive Dissonance

    Burgess Shale Fossils

    http://www.geo.ucalgary.ca/~macrae/Burgess_Shale/

What the Burgess Shale Fossils show is that during the Cambrian era, there is no way Evolution could have advanced life from one-cell protozoans to the complexity of crustaceans in the twenty or so million years of the Cambrian. There simply was not enough time, because some 550 million years ago, at the start of that era, the only life on Earth was the most simple of forms, one-celled bacteria, algae, protozoans.

If you are pondering the quandry of Creation in Six Days According to the Bible, then is that because this is what you have always heard?

Does the Bible realy say that?

Genesis 1 (New American Standard Bible)

    The Creation

1In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Notice the universe [heavens] came first, then the earth.

    http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=genesi...

The Sequence of Events in the Bible have no arguement from Scientific discoveries on any of these points and Genesis states that the Earth was to "bring forth" these first life forms.

Atheists, would you be open minded enough to embrace the Discoveries of Science and see the Bible, written many years before these discoveries, told the sequence of Creation, and Science has proved it so?

Or would Cognitive Dissonance eat you up?

  • Atheists, why do you hold Christians up to High Standards?

Why do atheists demand such high "moral codes" of Christians. They are asking Christians to become PERFECT, IMMEDIATELY!

Do atheists not know that God works with individuals throughout their lifetime? "He is the potter, we are the clay", stuff like that. Jesus, in the NT, even says (paraphrased), "God's work with you is never done." Eternal life (of the spirit) is offered. God has a plan for those who respond to the Call, and that plan involves daily growth.

So, do atheists realize that just because one day, somebody comes to belief, that the particular person may have also encountered a major struggle. Spiritual Warfare! ...then you have some ATHEIST come by kicking you in the shins about walking a tight-rope!!! *sips coffee*

  • Do atheists realize that evolution was part of God's plan of Creation?

Why do atheists try to separate the Science of God into a separate branch, and call it Evolution. The Bible states:

    Genesis: Chapter 1; Verses 11-13

11 Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day."

Examine the statement: "Let the land produce vegetation". This means that earth itself was designed to do exactly what the statement says: produce vegetation. This would mean that the "seed" was planted to bring forth such. It doesn't say "boom, there's an apple, boom, there's a watermelon, etc.." It clearly states that these thing were meant to EVOLVE from the land!

Why do atheists want to separate the truth and create their own definition of what Evolution means?

  • Do Atheists think the Big Bang started the earth spinning?

Do atheists think that the Big Bang was so perfect that it set the earth spinning in a perfect motion to create "night and day" in a 24 hour cycle and also started a harmonious orbit around the sun creating the season?

    Genesis, Chapter 1: Verses 3-5

3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

Or did God set the earth spinning, creating Night and Day?
