Did any guys talk to their dads about things like puberty, sex, hormones and all that when they were teenagers?

I didn't talk to my father about any of the uncomfortable topics surrounding puberty or sex when I was a teenager. What I learned came from male friends and their brothers but I wish I would have talked to my dad so he could tell me things without me having to ask. Did any guys have "the talk" with their dads?

No, I didn't talk to my dad I just got educated by reading sex ed books which most kids/young adults don't do today. Why not get accurate info instead of a what you get from your friends who are not knowledgeable that's why they ask questions on this site. If people today would just do some reading there wouldn't be so many questions on Yahoo! Answers.

Remember parents are not always the best source. Sorry I got carried away.

My parents never talked about any of those things to me. I never had "The Talk" with my dad. Everything I learned about puberty, sex, hormones, STDs and sexuality was from public school. Luckily, my teachers were really good at their job and were not afraid to discuss uncomfortable issues one-on-one.

When I was in college I met several friends that never had the talk with their fathers either. One student I befriended was raised in Brazil and had never even heard of HIV until he came to this country.

Hell no and his parents didn't either.

That's why my mother got pregnant was she was 19 and had to get married.

You would say that that taught them a lesson ,but no :my oldest sister got pregnant at 19 as well and my younger sister got pregnant at 14.

I was at that time a student at the teachers academy and talked to my sister and my mother about this situation and what to do about it:my father would have killed her because he hated her boyfriend. So we went to an abortion clinic. She was over the moon that this was behind her.

I set my two younger siblings down an told them the facts as they are.

My parents never uttered one word.

    Silly idiots.

I hope that parents tell their children the facts of life now:knowing that that is a wish that will not come true.

I worked at a high school as a biology teacher and there i taught them all there is to know about sex. Some of them came when I was eating during lunch if they could talk to me one on one:I never refused that

    Colors.

Hell no. I was taught by a girl up the street who used her dad's porno mags and her own body as visual aids. We got caught fooling around naked and not only did he not give me the talk, he used it as the subject matter for some very crude jokes he thought were funny, but I wasn't all that amused. When I got to 5th grade we had sex ed and my dad told my teacher who also was a member at our church that me and this girl were old pros when it comes to sex and the teacher joined the fun of making jokes about me.

i never had the talk or asked my friends i learned on my own and the schools sex ed. i think maybe once or twice my mom lightly told me that some "changes" would happen to me soon and not to be scared its normal so she was talking about puberty i

My dad died when I was 9, and all I got from my mom was sex is dirty

(that made it much more interesting) so I had to figure it out myself,

that may be why it took me and the wife 3 yrs. to have a child.(little humor)

When my son was old enough I had a talk with him, we were pretty close so I don't think he was embarrassed.

I didn't either, and never got "the talk" lol.

If there's something you need to ask about, just do it. He's only going to be supportive, not like your friends who might ridicule you if it's embarrising.

In my country (India), the parents hesitate too much talking about sex with their teen kids. I have never talked about it.
