17 inches Monitor and computer performance?

I got a 17" monitor. It's a Samsung 770TFT.

If I set the screen resolution in 1024x768, there is like black frame around. If I set the screen resolution at 1280x1024, the screen is full and everything looks sharp.

1280x1024 is the maximum resolution my computer has and I want to know if my computer's performance will be affected if I choose it (speed, RAM, anything)?

My computer has a Intel dual core processor and 512MB RAM. (I don't need more for now).

Update:

I have dual core, not Core2Duo

PC's have a way of letting you know if they aren't happy with what you're

asking them to do. If 1080x768 is your thing, then try it for awhile and see....it will let you know otherwise before it hurts itself.

it wont be affected, 512mb of RAM good to run 1280x1024, i would worry about 1440x900 and up though BTW why are you doing 512mb on an intel core 2 duo

you will get merely extra brighter extra efficient graphical representation, the show screen would be larger, extra convenient to study and and so on. yet this do no longer impact 3-D overall performance or pastime overall performance you merely want extra efficient video card.
