Feminists have helped many, but some have definitely found change upsetting. When I was growing up in the US, women had few choices for education or jobs, which has changed a great deal. Unfortunately, change is painful and long, and politically, few women are respected enough to be voted into office, especially at higher levels of our government. Religiously, quite a few organizations have made great strides trying to treat women equally, while others have become even more restrictive. And of course, changes that have caused personal problems for men, has been extremely upsetting to these men.

Rebecca W has the right idea except the notion that men have actually been "convinced" of what she describes. Feminists say a lot, but If everyone was like me there would be no need for the movement entirely.
Don't get me wrong though, I don't think men are brighter, better , more useful, and important than women. But they aren't any less so either.
Both women and men who disagree with that statement have to get their heads examined.

Some feminists, the ones who promote male and female equality, are helpful.
The feminists that hate men are definitely hurtful.

Feminists are fraction of the women in the industrialized world. They have spent at least the last 50 years (starting in the 60's) convincing men that they are at best a necessary evil and at worst useless to the world at large. They have made traditional family values out to be bad. And the worst thing of all, they have made women give up the very essence of femininity and act like men.
I call that quite hurtful.
