Do people that hate Homosexuals use Christianity as a mask for their own personal hatred?
I know not everyone that hate homosexuals are Christian.
But the majority of them are :) and they use Christianity to explain how it is evil.

Yeah, it becomes a "because the Bible says so" argument... which is quite superfluous really and that they can't think for themselves - which would probably be a worry if they could...

A tricky question to be sure. Unfortunately, there is no one correct answer. Most people who hate homosexuality do so out of ignorance. They don’t understand it and what people don’t understand, they tend to fear and hate. That said, many people don’t understand it because they don’t want to. The two major reason for this are:
1 - Religious ideology. If the bible were taken literally, homosexuality IS a stoneable offence in the old testament and IS seen as a sin in MOST Christian Churches.
2 - Cultural stigmas. Most men are VERY uncomfortable around the subject because it is considered taboo by most other heterosexual men. Thus accepting homosexuals is often seen as an admittance of being homosexual yourself. (Infantile, I know, but true!) That said, most men will not take the time to try and understand other gay men, and to be honest, when the topic of homosexual woman arises, the only thing most of us care about is are they really 'gay' or are they 'Bi' and do we have a shot with both of them...If not, can we at least watch. (Again, infantile, but also true.)
So, fore most people who use Christianity to explain the evils of homosexuality, the fact is many of them do believe that it is a crime against god and thus it is not an excuse to hate, but the justification. The rest are just too ignorant to accept it for what it is. A way of life unlike theirs.
Personally, I think the entire issue is a nonissue. I like woman. If two guys want to hook up, so be it, that's two less guys I have to compete with. As for lesbians, well, there are plenty of woman in the world and they are NOT all into other woman and since there are more woman then men in the world, I think I'm not too worried about the few that prefer other woman. It's their lose anyway! ;-)
People just need to get over their petty bigotries and their disdain of all things different. It is the differences in each other that make people interesting. They need to learn to except people for who they are. If you want to hate someone, hate people that put ignorance before knowledge or people that force others to lessen themselves because of their own inabilities. There is enough in the world to worry about with worrying about what two people do in the privacy of their own lives.

Really, no. People were raised homophobic, I am slightly, but I don't hate homosexuals. Christianity tells us to love one another, any hate is truly a personal problem. Do you go around loving everyone? Try, it's easier said than done, there will always be those who just get on your nerves. Christians aren't any less than a person than you are, we have our weaknesses, people we don't like, but we must overcome it.

That may be part of it, but I think it's mostly that Christianity brainwashes people to think that certain things are "evil" and give absolutely no rational reason why they are. So yes, Christianity can fuel one's hatred, but Christianity can also brainwash people into ignorance.

Absolutely. They fall back on a book of fiction to attempt to justify their bigotry and hatred.

Obviously.

Right on the nail!
It's a personal thing for many, yet they excuse their moronic views by quoting a book that is as far removed from love and understanding as it gets.

They don't use Christianity, really. They use their own interpretation of the bible to justify their hatred and prejudices.

well in christianity homosexuality is looked down on, in muslim homosexuality is to be stoned to death
I think the muslim faith would be a better mask
