Spiritually speaking, how do you remove file extensions in vista?

I have a text file, and i need to make it a blank file, how can i do this in vista, while saving in notepad it only gives me the option to save it as a .txt

Update:

When I got to rename a file, unlike in XP it doesn't show me the file extension, just the name itself, and when i go to folder properties there is no "view" option, the 4 tabs are general, security, sharing, and customize, i've been through all 4 and can't find anything there. I also scanned through the control panel but couldn't find anything, where should i be looking?

You need to go into folder properties and then view. Under "view" you can un-tick "hide file extensions". After that you'll see file extensions and can remove them by renaming them and taking the file extension off.

EDIT: Oh, weird. I'm not sure then.
