Is anyone a student at University of Phoenix?

Update:

I for one am a student at UOP. I like that the classes are accelerated. It allows me to turn in work early. If you schedule your time , you can easily do three papers in one week. I am taking 2 classes at the moment and each of them have 3-4 papers each week. I like it that way.

The advantage to U of P v. Penn Foster, though, is that U of P is regionally accredited, so the degrees are genuine degrees - you could go on for graduate study if you wanted to - and you can transfer the classes to other unis if you want to.

One of the good things about U of P is something that the other poster mentioned being a negative for her sister - all the classes are accelerated. This can be great for adults, because you get the class (and your degree) done more quickly. However, that means you do what, at a traditional college, would be a 16 week semester's worth of work, in 5 weeks. So you have a *lot* of work each week - multiple written assignments. You can't let yourself fall behind. You need to schedule this stuff into your life. But you're also going to complete your degree more quickly, and for a lot of adults, that's a major advantage.

One of the bad things about U of P is that it's a low level university - low ranked - and for profit. So some employers will not hire from U of P. Still, others will... but it's something you need to think about.

If you're interested, there are traditional unis that offer online degrees. You could check out UMass Amherst, UMass Dartmouth, Northeastern U, Southern New Hampshire U, and also the colleges in your home state. In fact, if you're interested in an associates, also check your local community colleges. A lot of them offer online degrees now, and they are your least expensive option.

My sister just started on the 28th of September. And she is already behind. Because she had 3 papers due in that same week. I heard it was a okay shcool but I do Penn Foster it is a work at your own pace school.

Yes, in the sense that they are eager for an education. No, in the larger sense that they are usually not learning the material as well as they could elsewhere for the same or lower tuition and that often their degrees will be given little if any credit by many employers and other universities.
