transmission refill on a 02 acura TL?
My friend took her TL to get an oil change and was told she needed to change the trans fluid because it was dirty and low. I think the shop just tried to make a sale on something unnecessary. Is there even a trans dipstick on a TL? I'm a mechanic but specialize on diesels, not much experience with honda/acura. I suggested she just have it topped off it is low because the trans might start to slip with a transmission flush. I say if it's not broke don't fix it. What's the procedure to changing the trans fluid? The car has 125k by the way

All TLs from 00-03 have serious transmission issues. One of the recommendations is to keep the tranny fluid clean. I'm not mechanic, but I do own an 01 TL with 100k miles and I have replaced the transmission two times! This doesn't really answer your question, but it is something to consider when looking at trans fluid on this car. Good luck.

there should be an orange dipstick to check the fluid. since the automatic transmissions on these cars had problems, you are better off doing a drain and fill once a year or every 20K miles. the fluid should be red in color. only use honda automatic fluid. i would not do a flush.

I myself,have had 3 of these beasts,84/88/04.I still have the 04,gold
badge series,bloody magic,it is.
It is recommended,by Honda that the trans, should be serviced, when cam belt changed, approx 100-000km.Get full service done,"IE" drain,
flushed,bands tightened,as required,new filter,new trans oil/by Honda & gaskets.Will keep on going for ever.My last service,cost me $726.38.
That included the trans,full service.new cam belt,engine drained,flushed,new filter& new oil..Not to bad i thought..Mine is an 04
3.5 legend,gold badge series.Also has 227.000km on it,so apart from
the obvious, two cam belts & trans services,it has only cost me,tyres
& brake pads!!Not even a light bulb( yet)
