My router power supply dies for several hours after power outages. What could cause this and how can I fix it?

I know that it is the power supply and not the router because there is a red LED on it that does not come on until the problem is resolved, and the LED functions independently of the router.

The power supply will begin function again after waiting enough time, but I'd like to find a way to speed up the process.

Sounds like a thermal breaker or similar protection circuit failing in the supply. That really isn't that uncommon. It will probably reset faster if left unplugged. Time for a new power supply.

You might have a failing PSU, or power issues. I'd at least see how a UPS or power conditioner goes.
