My seven month is starting table foods which kind of bread is easiest for him to eat?

He is my second baby and I can't remember what I did for the first. I seem to think I gave my first son little baby bite size pieces of bagel. If bagels are a good choice are whole wheat easier for them to gum or was it white. Also is it easier for them to eat them fresh or toasted. I would only give him the centre pieces not the crust for now.

Toasted bread with some texture. Cottony white breads tend to just flatten into a sticky mass when gummed up.

EDIT: Umm... Sunshine ... potato bread DOES have wheat flour in it. (Read the label.) Potatoes have no gluten, so a bread made only of potato would not rise ... you'd just have a potato pancake. Potato bread is wheat bread with potatoes added for additional moisture and flavor. (It dates back to when yeast was commonly made with potatoes -- the sugar in the potato made a good base for the wild yeasts.) And whole wheat bread is no more allergenic than refined wheat flour breads. And wheat needn't be avoided by babies old enough to be self-feeding solids, unless there is a strong history of allergy.

If you're not toasting it then go with whole grain breads (not enriched). Enriched breads will more likely stick to the roof of your child's mouth and cause a potential choking hazard. Toast on the other hand will not stick so much and it will break down easier in the baby's mouth since toasting removes much of the moisture.

I would stay away from whole wheat, as wheat can cause allergic reactions and almost everything wheat has honey in it. Read labels, Even regular wheat bread, still has honey. I ended up going with potato bread. My daughter loves it and so do I. Its fattening but, babies need the fat so it is fine. White flours are junk, so it really only leaves potatos. As she gets old the white and wheat will be okay. Now at 12 months I give my daughter the blueberry, plain, whole wheat and cinnamon raisin bagels.

Potato bread is probably a good choice if you are concerned about allergies.

I gave my baby all sorts of 7 grain and also wheat breads. I was never concerned about allergies, also gave eggs earlier, milk earlier and strawberries earlier and he has never had a problem with any food.

Wheat bread (100%) is fine if you check the label for honey/sugar and aren't concerned about allergies.

We have always given 100% whole wheat bread to our son and he does good with that. You can also try wheat pitas.
