How do the turkey legs at rennaissance fairs get so big?

They're huge! they look more like they were taken off a chubby 12 year old's! I've had some pretty big turkeys at thanksgiving, and they are dwarfed by these behemoths. Is it possible they're using ostrich legs?

Really, In all seriousness, how do they get so goddamn huge?

Update:

Thats what I thought, but theres no way steroids can do this. It's more like the turkey hulked out before it died.

Update 2:

I know there is a big difference between wild turkeys and farm turkeys. The legs at the fairs are far bigger than any I've seen on a turkey, farm or wild.

maybe its the breed of turkey. not your average thanksgiving variety, more like the prehistoric kind that's more like a dinosaur. a small dinosaur. that'd make more sense.

I would guess that they get so big from the pens where they live and they never get to exercise so all they do is eat and get fat and then when they cant stand anymore they are sent to the slaughter house. The legs are shipped off for things like ren faire and disney world and state faires and the white meat is processed for lunch meats.

this is just an assimption though based on past news items about the treatment of chickens and turkey.

    It is steroids or similar.

They are widely used to plump up the breast meat as well to cater to the demand of the US market.

If you were to see a regular turkey and the things that are eaten at thanksgiving you would say they were different types of birds.
