What do you think of these pictures?

My last photography class is Thursday, and we are having a photo competition. I need a good photo by then. Here are a few I have taken. Please tell me which, if any, are good. If none of them will work, I need to find a good shot by Thursday, and as the pictures show, I live in Las Vegas. Any ideas for more shots/how to improve these would be welcome. These are just random shots from various things I've done and places I've been. I still need to edit these shots, so please forgive any minor errors but feel free to point them out. As a beginning photographer, I need all the constructive criticism I can get. Thanks for looking at my work!

Pictures are at:

Update:

I'm kind of running out of time folks. Do you guys have any ideas for a good shot that I could take by Thursday?

Sorry but I would have to agree with the other, your angles are not very good, the exposure could be done a little bit better on some of them. The pictures are very unbalanced, meaning there is to much sky or things seem off center.

The three of the sun either rising or setting, not sure which it is, are balanced well but the exposure is off. The ones of the new york setting show a bit to much sky, it is overbearing to the pictures. They lack focus, what is the subject here? The boat and beach seem to close, as if they were part of a bigger picture that is not shown. Sunset could show a little less sky to even out the pic. Remember to keep your planes visible. Pictures where it appears as if you are looking up are not very good, gives an obscure perspective that is not very visually pleasing, for a photo. Same thing goes with looking down on something. When they turn out like that its a sign that you might want to step back a bit or find a platform, get a better angle.

I would say the best pic, in terms of design concepts and exposure, is the basketball pic, but it lacks interest.

Dude! I live in Vegas too! Awesome! Hehe.

About your pics, some good, others not so much. They feel more snapshot-ish to me than quality pictures. Probably the only one I would even consider (and this is a big stretch) is the one labeled DSC_0283_edited-1. All the rest, eh. Not so much.

Sorry, I suck at critiques tonight. My page is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kimberlya416

Any Las Vegas shots I have are either in a set or scattered around. I've only been home for 3-4 weeks so I haven't done much shooting in Vegas in well over a month.

@ Mr. Cellophane: These days Las Vegas kind of IS a ghost town sadly enough.

Your shots give me the impression that Las Vegas is a ghost town. Where are the people? If I were looking for "The Shot", I would take a pictures during the golden hour before dark and I would try to take some shots of the roller coaster that is on one of the hotels there. Photos from the spectator point of view and from the rider. Play tourist or tour guide rather than resident. Look at your home town through new eyes. If you are going to do lights, get some light trails or paint with light to give it a dynamic quality. Take pictures of the pirate ship, dancing water fountains at different shutter speeds.

If you need one photo to work on for an assignment try cropping DSC-0218.

Crop just right of the flagpole, enhance a bit more depth into it and you have a nice shot.

Don't get discouraged by the crap from others, your crap doesn't stink any more or the same as others.

Please take that as a compliment.
