Shouldn't the Vikings play in an outdoor stadium?

November and December is when all the best football is played, and the cold weather plays a major part in the playoffs. Cold weather teams traditionally do better in winter due to acclimating themselves to the inclimate weather. From a psychological standpoint wouldn't it make more sense to take advantage of the bone-chilling temperatures in Minnesota in the winter instead of taking refuge in a dome? I think teams would DREAD going there in the winter for a playoff game, therefore giving the Vikings a huge advantage right from the beginning. Doesn't it make sense for them to play in the open air and adjust their team accordingly? I know as an Eagles fan no warm weather team wants to come to Philly in December, or Green Bay, New Jersey (hah Midget fans), Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, or even New England. The cold weather teams have the advantage. Why doesn't Vikings ownership realize this?

Update:

Hook em, they DID have a tradition of playing outdoors, because the teams before the Metrodome played outside. The teams who play in cold weather just seem tougher. And traditionally Vikings WERE COLD WEATHER PPL, I couldn't see Erik the Red rushing inside to get warm, could you? lol

I'm glad someones finally brought this up. Being a Packer fan and feeling the cold wind on my face in Lambeau Field has always made the game much better for me. And besides it does make the teams seem tougher if they play outside. For god sakes their mascot is the Vikings and the Vikings practically lived in the cold. In my opinion the people in Minnesota need to grow a pair and get an outdoor stadium.

I agree completely. The Metrodome should have been a baseball-only facility. Not even Seattle plays in a dome any more and they have some of the greatest home fans in the league. Minnesotans are a tough breed who can handle 3-4 hours of ice and snow to see their team.

Does any other team north of the Mason-Dixon line play in a dome any more? Leave the domes to the people who need to get out of the heat and humidity.

I think you have a good point and I would personally like to see that happen. I actually can remember watching them play outside when Bud Grant was the coach. The problem with doing it in a small market location like the Twin Cities would be if enough fans would show up to sit in that environment for 3 to 4 hours. If they could heat the seats or create some sort of open roof to keep them dry I'm sure they would show up just like they do in Green Bay.

There's more to consider than just the outside temperature. There's the rain or snow. The wind is another thing. All 3 can make the game almost impossible to play. Who wants the weather deciding a game? Especially, a play-off game.

Sounds like a good idea but I don't know if the fans would like to be out in the cold for 3+ hours

    True.

but you have to look at it as a fan base.

i dont really know if viking fans like the cold weather.

but in phili its sort of like a tradition..

think the should do it like in arizona with the removable dome.

I agree, I love watching football in snow and rain. I love sloppy tough rough football in mud. I love frozen fields and messy football!

The ownership does relieze this. They are in the process of trying to build a new OUTDOOR stadium. They just have to come up with the money. The stadium looks pretty sick look it up on google.
