Can a renter drain the pool?

We are renters getting ready to move and the home is being foreclosed on we want to drain the pool knowing the owner is not going to return to the property to take care of it, so it dose not acquire mosquitoes and algae but if someone comes in the yard and gets hurt is it our fault, because we drained it. We are in San Bernardino County, In Ca

I admire your concern as renters, it is refreshing. Do not drain the pool, but do let the neighbors know, someone may be willing to maintain the pool ( and use it as well). Also, let the County mosquito abatement department know of your mosquito concerns re the pool. They will send someone around to monitor it and most likely add mosquito fish to eat the larva.

Remember you are renters, if it belongs to the property owner, then you are not responsible for it. If you own it then take it. But I would still drain it so it doesn't acquire mosquitoes and algae for the neighborhood.

Leave it alone. You are a renter and not responsible for what happens after you leave. If you drain it and there are problems, such as the pool collapsing, you could be held responsible for damages.
