Is this bad for my health? (Blacking out question)?

Every morning when I get up my eyesight goes all black and I feel this huge pressure on my head and my legs start to give way. A friend of mine said this was because of low blood pressure? I don't fully black out but it does go black for about 10-15 seconds. It also happens when I just stand up too fast sometimes and when its really hot the corners of my vision go a bit black. Anyway my mum told me that her mum and her had the exact same problem and used to black out all the time. My questions- does this have a bad impact on my health, is it from low blood pressure, and how can I prevent it?

Thank-you so much for your answers!!

Update:

I'm going to add some more details to see if this will help any- I am 16 and I am pretty healthy. I don't drink or do anything else that would poorly effect my health. Sometimes I don't get much sleep because I do assignments a lot but I'm not sure if thats it because my mum and grandma got the exact same thing? Thanks again for the answers :)

Please don't let any answers get you thinking you have heart trouble or your terribly unhealthy!

It is usually low blood pressure,(it drops a bit around waking up,not a problem just the way it works) Just give yourself a second or two as you swing out of bed.

Being dehydrated, not sleeping well, or being generally run-down will make anything like this worse, and it's not uncommon to feint for second after you get up. But it's not necessarily a problem.

Maybe keep an eye on it, and if it's happening all the time, or just really worrying you(cause worry itself is a problem!) then ask a Doctor about it.

Look after yourself and good luck.

Okay so this is not as uncommon as you may think I have known many people who have gotten the same thing. I have the answer bit your probably not going to like it. The same thin happened to me and it took me a while to figure It out but once I did It was definetely for the better. Okay so what is wrong with you is you are unhealthy period. It could be any of these not enough sleep, too much hard work, dehydration(including drinking too much alchohol), and bad eating habits. Basically your body is physically exhausted and it's stoppng your body from getting enough oxygen to your brain. If you keep ignoring it you might not only black out but start to get these thongs where you fall if your standing then start to have almost like a seizure if you have not already.

Talk to your mom more and ask her if she or your grandmother ever asked a doctor about this and what he said. Getting dizzy when you stand up to fast is a common problem. If you are blacking out for no good reason see a doctor. I have blacked out at times in my life. When I was pregnant it would happen sometimes. Or sometimes when I was stressed. I do have a mitral valve prolapse though and a heart murmur. Anyways see a doctor because your blood pressure shouldn't be going to low.

    Best Wishes

low blood pressure can make this worse, but everyone gets it sometimes. and no it will not have any bad effect on your health.
