I have temporary numbing on....?

...the left side of my bottom lip and the tip of my right index finger. It will go numb, to sleep, how ever you want to put it. Almost like a small shot of Novocain. It lasts from a few seconds to a minute. It will happen sometimes 5 to 10 times a day. I haven't been able to connect anything with it.

I am a 52 yo male, 5'9, 253#, I know over weight but have lost 20# in the last 7 weeks and continuing to loose more.

Does this ring a bell with anyone?

I will add details about general health as needed.

Thanks

Update:

Thanks everyone for your concern and suggestions. I went to the emergency room this morning and had a Cat Scan, EKG, Blood Work, and a chest xray. No sign of stroke or bleeding. No sign of Diabetes, everything looked good except for my high blood pressure which I knew I had. Doctor gave me a script for some meds and gave me a shot intravenously to kick start me.

Do I understand you correctly: lost 20# in last 7 weeks - you weighed 273 # before you started loosing weight?

Even if not, at 5'9, 253#, you're seriously overweight; if you don't have, sounds like you might be experiencing the onset of diabetes.

Looked it up on Google: might want to check and see if any of the symptoms you're experiencing, fits:

    Can you speak normally?

(You need another person to listen to you to be able to tell.)

Do you know the day and date and approximate time, without looking it up?

(As in: It's the weekend, in october, mid month, and it is nite time.)

Can you recall and recite, and write down (with a pen and paper) your name, address, and phone number?

Can you walk normally, and eat and drink without problem?

    Is your vision clear?

    Is your hearing clear?

If yes to all, probably a nerve thing and not a stroke.

If NO to any, I'd get medical help, at least from a phone center.

As for the Diabetes Diagnosis, that could be very true.

Do you know if you are diabetic?

Have you eaten or over eaten?

    Have you taken your meds?

Have you checked your blood sugar lately?

What do you do in the few hours before these symptoms occur?

(ie: any over use of a game boy, blackberry, pc mouse, etc???)

It can happen from a lot of causes, for example cervical spondylosis or some diabetes problems. You should get checked by a doctor, because these can be a symptom of a more severe problem.

Numbness may result from a nerve problem. I agree with the others, if it happens regularly it's time to ask a doctor. They can run tests to see if you are in danger of a serious problem.
