to all people of all religions... (atheists too..)?

why cant all religions have at least some truth to them? instead of a centralized belief bing absolutely correct?

seriously, we all worship in about the same ways, (ex. prayer circles.. wine and bread/ wine and pastries.. ) (im not including atheist on this .... sorry..)

either way, cant there be many religions with truth within them (possibly atheist as well) then just a single "superior" belief?

-- Please NO bible verses!.. i want you to use your own knowledge and mind, not a books.

thank you.

Update:

@ fullfill.... i do not understand what you are trying to say...

Update 2:

@ question everything yes i know what atheism is.

Update 3:

@ matt-- what im saying is that there are so many commonalities between many religions.. both christian based and pagan based.. cant there be some parts of truth hidden within the practices and teachings if there are so many things that are similar..? that not every religion is purely correct. and no religion is completely truth.. there is always something that is in question..

Update 4:

@ blair.. thank you, but can you answer your own question?

Update 5:

@ A friend- so you agree that other religions have some truth in them.. seeing as you are from a christian based religion, would you still say that you agree if you knew that i am from a pagan based religion?... and can you answer your own question?.

Update 6:

@ photographer- i have spoken to many buddhists and what i have gathered is that they worship Devas (their "gods" ..) how are the Devas not considered Dieties?.. (sorry if i misspell something.. )

thank you for the reference, i will check it out.

A very noble pursuit. The better question, though, is why do peoples beliefs depend upon other people believing the same thing?

Any truly spiritual person will not try to convert or kill others, but also will not come out of the shadows to say that you are right :)

    :(

Maybe that means I'm not a spiritual person... Oh dear...

There are religions with better "philosophies" such as Taoism or some forms of Buddhism which do not worship deities.

Anything that requires worship or sacrifice would require a magalomaniacal deity.....and that doesn't sit right.

Most of of the christian religion was "copied and pasted from older ones. Even the rosary beads and monks robes were "borrowed" from the Buddhists.

The bible is a fairy tale based on other fairy tales, and if you go to books.google.com, you can download a book called Bible Myths and Their Parallels to Other Religions. It was written 150 years ago, and was used at Harvard Seminary. It proves that most bible stories were "copied and pasted" and aren't even original, let alone real, and the priests know this too.

Edit: Some forms of Buddhism have no deities, as I stated above. Teravada Buddhism / Orthodox Buddhism do not, but Tibetan Buddhism does

I think all religions have some truth to them. Some are just more logical than others. Take Heaven and Hell, for example. They might not be places we go after we are dead, but a way of saying that you can go either way when it comes to life. It's hard with Christianity because it is pretty far fetched. One superior being that forgives all sins that no one can see or know anything about.

Religion is faith, the knowledge that God or someone will always forgive you and be there for you. It doesn't actually involve burning in Hell if you're bad.

  • That's actually similar to what I believe. Even though there are many differences between religions, there are also many commonalities. I believe that there is some truth in nearly all religions, and that this truth is God trying to meet us on the road that we're on.

I just also happen to believe that my own faith (Christianity) is the closest thing to absolute truth of all of the religions I've studied. I keep an open mind though.

Well, you really didn't include atheists in there, so I don't know how you're going to fit us in, but I'll try to answer that anyway. There are as many religious beliefs as there are opinions. You don't mind gays, person X hates them. Person X also doesn't believe in interracial marriage, but person Y has no problem with that. When a religion is chosen, it is chosen to match your personal beliefs. Wen you are raised in a religion your personal beliefs are shaped by that religion. Many religions, such as the Jehovah's Witnesses, are simply incompatible with other religions by design. There will never be a unified belief system so long as there is belief in the supernatural.

Some religions have truth to them, just not any truthful supernatural claims, and includes the claim of a god's existence. So why don't we cut out the middle man, be good people, and eat bread and wine as atheists?

It would be difficult for ALL of them to be somewhat correct I have to say. The idea that thousands of religions, all conceived at different points in history by completely different people, can all be slightly correct just doesn't sound right to me. If they were to ALL contain a grain of truth, it would have to be an extremely small grain of truth for most religions.

Anyway, since all religions cannot be correct, I just believe they're all wrong.

If that's the truth that you want, that's not necessarily the truth you will get. And, besides, isn't this an absolute confirmation that you are correct? I don't know why any right-minded individual would trust your opinion (that's exactly what it is) over the relevation of facts undisturbed by error.

Most overall wrong theories have some accurate points in them. I do think most of the stories of the bible, qu'ran etc. have some truth in them, though the writers probably twisted reality and stretched their imagination quite a bit.

All religions are not the same. Period. And if I would like to I could use Bible verses...Christianity is not the foundation on what I think, but what the Bible says. Period.
