How would you describe "free speech"?

as briefly and succinctly as possible.

I would say...."you have the right to talk bollox and I have the right to tell you it's bollox." What say you?

The right to say whatever you want without infringing on another's rights.

  • There are varying levels of freedom for speech but core political speech contains a clash of ideas that will not be suppressed unless a dictatorship is rising.

Unfortunately, there are several dictatorships rising throughout the world today including some in the West.

Free speech comes with responsibility. You are free to say what you like without being derogatory. You must refrain from being insulting or accuse without proof, and incite violence. If you do not abide by that, then free speech may come back and bite your wallet!

Free speech is the right to make your views public without fear of being imprisoned or even killed as happens in countries where free speech is not allowed.

Free speech does not shelter from one from libel nor does it allow one to spread lies.

Free speech is.... banning a book based on facts contained in police investigation files since made public, because what is said in the book (and in the investigation files) incriminates two people... the McCanns.

Free speech is... last night's Question Time... Each time I was eager to hear what Griffins had to say, each time some moron in the panel robbed me of the right to listen to what he had to say !!

Free speech appears to be.... I WILL TELL YOU WHAT THE TRUTH IS AND YOU BELIEVE.... OR GET LOST !!

Free speech and BIASED journalism do NOT go and must not, ever, go hand in hand.

    'Free' speech? It's fake:

    - you're not allowed to swear around kids

    - you're not allowed to talk about sex at work around women or say certain things

    - you're not allowed to incite people to kill each other (unless you're in the government'

    - you're not allowed to make up lies about people - you can sue for libel

    Source(s): It's not 'free' - it's consensual speech and it's politically constructed.
