Please help my kittie.?
My cat is really skinny. I have been leaving a constant amount of food out so she can eat whenever she wants. She eats and eats but she can't gain any weight. I have checked for worms and other parasites, she has none. My vet seems to think that she's perfectly fine, but I don't agree. (I know that I should take my vet's professional opinion, but I can see her ribs!!!)
Please, help my kittie!!!

If this were my kitty and she had a ravenous appetite and was always eating, and does not put on weight, and my vet was not able to diagnose any medical condition that was causing this problem, I would certainly get a second opinion. She may have a condition which is causing her not to be able to absorb the nutrients in her food so she is not gaining weight. Her metabolism may not be functioning the correct way either. There are many reasons beside parasites that can cause an inability to gain weight.
There is nothing wrong with doubting what your vet is telling you. Some veterinarians overlook problems that may not seem important to them, but we as the cat companion know our animals and very often our "feelings" about things prove to be accurate.
You should not be able to see a cat's ribs. Trust your instincts and do consult another vet. If there is a feline only veterinarian in your area, I would suggest taking your cat to be examined by that veterinarian. They really know cats as that is the only species that they work with.
Good luck with her, and I do hope nothing is seriously wrong, and another veterinarian will find the cause of this concern.

Hi if the vet checked for worms was that just recently? Have they done lab work on her to determine if she has an infection, leukemia, diabetes? I would definitely get more lab work done and if you are not satisfied with your vet go to another that is the one great freedom we have in the USA freedom of choice. Try feeding her some strained beef baby food with some cooked rice mixed in, try feeding her some cooked hamburger. I guess I would try everything, but make sure she sees a vet and has some labs done if they weren't. Good Luck.

Take your cat and have a blood test run on her. This will be of more help than your vet "thinking she's perfectly fine".
A blood test will tell you ( and the vet ) if she's developing Diabetes, thyroid or kidney problems, etc. Better to have the test run and find out that she's okay, than to wait until she's REALLY sick.....and that you COULD have helped, if you'd known earlier......
If you don't think your vet is giving you good advice, find another one. Even vets can sometimes be "quacks".......Every vet class has to have someone at the BOTTOM of the class.....Maybe your vet is one of those. :-/
Hope you get some help for her soon........Good luck.

Get a second opinion. Have you checked her litter? Is she drinking alot of water? Diabetes does show up in cats.

Has the vet checked for worms? They have microscopes and equipment you don't. Step up the feeding and give her more.

You need to tell us how old she is. If you dewormed her, and if you had bloodwork done to check her thyroid.
