The lowest possible is 3. The range seems to be between 8-12. The charges got into the playoffs with 8 wins last year, and the Patriots missed the playoffs with 11 wins.

Whoever wins the division gets a secure playoff spot, and the next two best teams get the wildcard spots. Everyone else gets kicked to the curb.

Technically 3 wins can win you a division title if you beat everyone in your division once but run up the score, everyone in your division beats you once but only wins by, say, a field goal. Then everyone in the division loses every other game. Your team will go to the playoffs as your entire division goes 3-13, but your team beat the others by a higher margin.

Source(s): I would be interested to see what would happen if every division game was a tie, making all 4 teams go 0-10-6...

There is too many factors to consider.

It all depends on the record of the best two teams in the conference and if any of these two teams are on your division, if they are your chances are good of making the playoffs by getting a wild card spot, and you can come second on your division. If your team isn't in your division, your chances are lower to make the playoffs and only the team first in the division gets a wild card spot.

It varies greatly to tell you the truth, some teams with great records didn't make the playoffs last year like the Patriots thans to the titans almost undefeated season.

The vikings will make the playoffs though. They will win the second spot of the conference, so don't worry.

16 will do it for certain.

The lowest possible number is 3. That means you beat everyone in your division once and own all the tiebreakers, but that would also mean that they would have to lose all of their non-divisional games. So that's not very likely.

The lowest to actually do it is 8.

So, in theory between 3 and 16. In reality, anywhere from 8 to 16. Still it all depends on your division-mates.

Some have snagged a spot with as few as 8, but it all depends on the records of other teams in the division.

9-10 usually a wild card, 10-11 3rd or 4th seed , 12 maybe 13 2nd seed, 13+ top seed on average. Every year is different so it can vary

Most cases 10 will get you in 11 almost gets you in expect in two cases and anything beyond that is a lock.
