Do voice actors get paid much?

I was just wondering, because i'm considering lending my voice talents to the newest pixar movie about dinosaurs, do voice actors get paid a lot less in comparison to say, actual actors? How much less?

Thanks!

Update:

Ok I may have been being a little sarcastic about the pixar thing but I am interested in how much they actually get paid so if you know please let me know :)

Update 2:

Oh and I know they are real actors too I was joking about that as well :) I think its amazing what they do and how they can create so many different characters with their voice.

Voice overs can be very lucrative and is therefore a hyper competitive niche. VO artists who do commercial work usually out earn on camera commercial talent. You (or your parents) will have to invest quite a bit of money into your business before you'll ever see a dime in return. Most VO artists belong to the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and American Federation of Radio and Television Artist (AFTRA). AFTRA you can just join and it's $1300 membership with bi yearly dues based on your earnings. SAG is a bit more difficult to earn your eligibility for but if and when you do it's around $2300 to join.

What a VO artist gets paid depends on the job, hours, length of employment etc but there is a union regulated minimum. You can visit www.sag.org and www.aftra.org and research it yourself.

Voice actors are the same as actors. Exept they don't need to be in character as much. But it is also harder in some cases because you have to get the voice PERFECT and for just actors who are seen, they don't need to get the VOICE perfect, they need to get the ROLE perfect. Both jobs are hard but it's more like which job is harder. And getting into character for the most part is harder. even though you (as a voice actor) Might think it isn't. It's used in a general sense. So i think that character actors will get paid more, but only by maybe 50 dollers. and it also depends on the movie too.

But all actors have one job:

get into character and please the audience.

voice acting (recording copy which may be a short ad or a manual of some kind) pays very well, takes a modest investment of under $600, and is fairly competitive. You are not talking about that,of course but rather voice over and, in case you haven't noticed, the voice overs for pixar flicks are done by famous actors whose contracts are negotiated and the amounts are not released.

Look for TruthTeller's answer. Apparently he's a working voice actor who gives people the REAL DEAL. Though he spends a lot of time on here, so I'm not sure how he finds time to work. While you're at it, ask him for a link of where you can view his work. All the best :)

It depends who you work for and what you play the voice of. A lead in a Pixar film probably gets paid a lot!

Considering yourself is a brilliant idea
