Is it normal for my puppy to have her last rib on each side protrude a little?
only when she's eating or drinking does it stick out - when she's walking around or playing, they are hidden. I gently pushed against them while she was eating, but she didn't take notice so it must not be causing her pain. Is there a condition that causes this? is this something i should take her to the vet for?
i just bought this puppy a few days ago and it was shipped to me. The breeder took her to a vet the day he sent her, but i'm not sure how thorough the inspection was...

If it doesn't seem to bother her then there's nothing to worry about.
Edit: I just had to add this in response to Rainbow child. Yeah yeah go ahead and get your dog vaccinated and dewormed, but only do it once! Are you kidding me, dewormer every 3 months for it's entire life??? That's bogus, please don't do that to your dog. Dewormer medication is rough on a dogs system if you do it too often, same with vaccines. I've had over 10 dogs over a 20 year period and the only vaccines I give are rabies, parvo, and distemper, and I give them at 8, 12 and 16 weeks respectively and that's the ONLY vaccines they get for their whole lives. And my dogs are healthier than all those other dogs getting vaccinated and dewormed every year. I only use dewormer if they actually HAVE worms. Get a fecal sample done every now and then and they will be able to tell you if your dog has worms, only THEN do you need to deworm. Trust me, I've put in my time, effort, and research and today is a new day and age and vets are starting to admit that overvaccination is now causing serious problems as dogs age.

I'm not sure if you're asking if the rib sticking out indicates that the dog is underweight, or asking if it's a physical abnormality. I have a dog whose last rib sticks out quite a bit. It's perfectly normal for him though it does look a bit odd, and he is not underweight. My vet remarked on it the last time we were there, can't remember what he called it but it isn't cause for concern. I think it's just the way some dogs are built. Also, if it only happens when she's eating or drinking, it's probably because she's using muscles which contract her stomach area so the ribs appear to stick out. It really doesn't sound like anything to worry about. You need to take the puppy to your own vet anyway, it's always a good thing to do when you get a new dog, so ask your vet about it.

This is normal. But again all puppies need to have a health check when you first get them. It is not too late..so take the puppy to the vet.
Stop pushing against her ribs Please.. that is just a no no.
Your puppy also needs vaccinations and wormers. Take her to the vet, don't use this forum as a cheap way for diagnosis. Nobody can diagnose your puppy.

This is the problem with people.
So and so said they did this.. but actually so and so did not do what they said.
This is a life here and you are supposed to go and register your pup with a vet and get it wormed and it's shots. Get a health check done. Read all the posts where people have bought puppies or dogs..promised they are in good health and then find they are sick.
Even if there is nothing wrong with your puppy, it needs to be vaccinated and started on a worming programme. Puppies need worming every month till they are 6 months old. Then every 3 months all through their lives.

No. you're supposed to be able to see the last ribs... a dog at a healthy weight will have a defined waist and hips.
Don't freak out... way too many people let their dogs get way too fat because they're too lazy to exercise them... a fat dog is generally not as demanding on its owner.

the problem here is that the puppy was never properly weened resulting in poor bone structure. Yes I would go to the vet and ask more there
