AIR FORCE! AFSC 3N0X1 PUBLIC AFFAIRS? Pros and Cons?
YES, I know that it's highly unlikely that this job is available but if you have any information about it humor me! BTW: I made a 91 on the asvab and I have an associate degree.
OK....PUBLIC AFFAIRS- Obviously that's broad. What are the working conditions like? What are the hours like? Do you have to work nights, weekends etc? Is this a stressful job. What about the rate of deployment for this job? Please list any pros and cons that come to mind.
I'm hoping to hear from people who have this job or have a best friend or spouse who does this job.
Please don't send me the links to usmilitaryabout.com or airforce.com. Those sites don't have the information I'm looking for.
I know people with this job exist! I want to hear from you!
Thanks!

I have never worked as a PAO, but I can tell you about the general working conditions. First off, life in the USAF is as good as it gets for being in the military. They tend to work smarter, not harder and so they always get off earlier than we do.
The best branch for quality of life is the USAF, one of the best jobs within each branch is being a PAO. It's a normal office job. Hours - it really depends on who's in charge. Generally start between 7-9am and finish between 4-7pm. It really just depends on your boss and your workload, although if your workload is low, then it's just your boss.
Technically, you're on call 24-7, but in reality we work 8-12 hour days. In the Army, we're usually 1 year deployed then 1-2 years stateside. I think the USAF does 6 month tours, but they are slightly more frequent.
Hope that helps. Personally, if I were in your shoes, I'd sign up in an instant. Also, it translates as a marketable job when you get out.

Public Affairs is an excellent choice as an Air Force job. You interact with all levels of military distinguish veterans and different commands. I have been in six years in the Air Force and I work at lodging and we deal with Public Affairs on different levels. I would go to your recruiter and ask if he/she can sponsor you onto the base so you can see what Public Affairs really does, kind of like shadowing. I think it would be really good, plus it will give you insight and may be able to answer many questions you may have. If that doesn't work out or you change your mind, try intel. With ASVAB scores like that, you are the ultimate candidate.

Actually, with the current economy it may not be a bad thing. It depends a great deal on two things; 1. Are you entering as an officer? It makes life a lot easier but you are responsible for those below you. It will teach you how to manage people and be a positive plus when you come out into the civilian job force. (and you can wait twenty years to come out with a pension) 2. What is your degree in? It could be a real plus to enter with a degree if it is a needed degree, for example; BS in meteorology , aerodynamics, nursing, etc. 3. What Job do you want while in? Are you trying to get flight school? or work in weather? A medical career? My advice; Talk with a recruiter and also talk to active duty personnel.especially those doing the job that you are interested in.
