is this an independent clause?

"He was also given money"

I'm not sure because of the word "also", but it does have a subject and a verb.

    Yes I think it is an independent clause because it's able to be understood alone. For example, if it said something like "So he got money" that would be a dependent clause.

    Yup, it's an independent clause. An independent clause just means that it can stand alone as its own sentence, which this can. :)
