What do I do about my son peeing on the floor?

My son is eight years old and he keeps peeing on my bathroom floor. I really don't get it. We've spanked him, made him clean up his messes, even made him take us with him when he uses the bathroom. After a punishment, he stops doing it for a while (sometimes for months even), but as soon as I think he's stopped with this disgusting habit, he goes right back to doing it again. Any ideas how to stop this for good?

Update:

Where he is peeing, is it obviously intentional...he's even admitted as much. It really feels like one of those things boys do, but obviously I can't just allow him to do it.

Don't make a big deal about it. Don't punish him for it.

Just remind him that messes need to be cleaned up so he needs to clean it up. Then move on. Don't give him any attention for doing it, even negative attention.

And don't make the cleaning up a punishment. It's just something that has to be done after a mess it made.

Well is it a spill or the whole thing? If it is the whole pee on the floor then I say take him to the doc...that's a bit weird...if it is a spill then you may still want to see a doc and get his hand eye co-ordination checked out....he could be dyspraxic.

Begin to reward him for doing it rightly everytime. Either by offering a word of praise or awarding him a "star". five stars would mean a bigger reward etc. This tend to work pretty well.

Beat him with a wooden spoon..if that doesnt work take him to a doctor.
