Why carbon capture and sequestration?
What is good about it? I know some people may not like it because it doesn't involve any esoteric novel science just application of existing engineering technologies. Forget that it would be done by big oil and power generation companies in a large scale industrial way and that some hate this and think everything they do is dangerous. It has a cost but would be available as an interim measure whilst more esoteric technologies are developed and proved. It would enable existing production infrastructure for fossil fuel production to continue in use. Is there a real alternative?
d/dx.. I believe that the energy companies will go for the most economic solution (that is if the type of scaremongering demonstrated by a tao is overcome) but I wonder just how robust the cost estimated for biomass are. We shall see.

Carbon capture and sequestration on a large scale is technically challenging, but possible with current technology. The rationale for carbon sequestration is to justify continued use of fossil fuels. The cost of adapting to alternative energy sources, such as biomass is much less than the cost of implementing sequestration technologies. If sequestration technology was coupled with a biomass rather than fossil fuel source the process would be carbon negative rather than carbon neutral for about the same overall cost.
Edit: the cost of biomass fuel is on the order of $4 per GJ whereas long term coal contracts signed by China were recently about $7 per GJ. The lower fuel cost is offset by the need to adapt the furnaces in power plants.

Biggest problem with it is the barking mad, "i hope its ok", half baked science behind it.
"lets bury it, it wont leak" yeah sure, just see what that does to property prices near by
"lets put it under the ocean, it should stay down there" and if it doesn't you have a pollution disaster greater than all the oil tankers put together
The truth is they don't know for sure its safe and the way to find out is NOT try it and see.
