My PC shuts itself down whilst loading windows, why?

I decided to dust down the components of my PC today. I did it all unplugged and put things back carefully... except I decided to "fix" my front audio out port by rearranging the heads on plugged into the motherboard (stupid, I know).

In the motherboard manual it says "getting the switches in the wrong place can cause system malfunction". I've tried resetting BIOS but its still suddenly losing power on the "Windows loading" screen.

What is likely to be the problem? I don't want to buy a new MB and find out it's something else you see.

Thanks

Update:

I have reseated the RAM and disconnected the graphics card, neither worked. Also it does stop dead as if there's been a power cut, no shut down sequence.

So, I assume that you disconnected and then reconnected your front panel to mobo connection. Sounds pretty safe to me. Disconnect the front panel cabling from the mobo and try powering up the computer.

If it works check your mobo manual and the front panel cable for correct keying and location.

If it does not work, you've eliminated one suspect.

Verify that all mobo cables are connected securely and properly, both ends.

Verify that the memory and any plug-in cards are seated properly.

Try restarting in Safe Mode, press F8 when the computer begins booting up. I doubt that this will work but it's worth a try.

verify each and all the connections interior the computer and make specific the ram is seated nicely. if it have been given roughed up it would desire to have knocked some thing patrially loose. make specific each and all the followers are plugged in and are not jammed with something and spin freely. It sounds like the two it reaches a definite element and the RAM is complete and motives an blunders of it is going into thermal close down because of the fact the cpu fan isnt turning

It almost sounds like you may have tweaked something that has to do with your power. Is is actually powering off (like normal) or just going straight to dead? These could be different things.

    Cheers,
