A question on coloring?

I thought my kitten was just a black and white, but I noticed the other day that she has developed some orange coloring on the tips of her ears. Does this make her a calico? There are no other spots of orange.

Update:

I was just curious, I have 3 calicos already, so I know what a normal one would look like. Thanks for clearing it up though. I guess I'll just keep calling her a black and white then.

Do you have any pics? If there's even just ONE tiny spec of Red (what orange is called in cat colours) then yes - this would make her Calico (also called "Tortie and White")

I have a friend with a Tortie Point Himalayan and today was looking at her seemingly Seal Point Himmy going "Tortie?" till she held up her paw and you could see this random splotch of Red on the inside edge of the paw!

I'd have to see a picture. It could be a case of the black color "rusting" out when sitting in too much direct sun (like outside). I've seen black cats that are outside cats and the coat can get an orangy rusty color on the tips of the fur.

Since its just on the tips of the ears, I suspect his is what is wrong and not that the cat is a calico. IMO you would still have a black & white bicolor cat.

That is what happened to my cat. When she was a kitten she was gray and white. Then started developing orange over the years. If she has 3 distinct colors in her coat it would make her a calico, or maybe a tortie (tortoiseshell) like my cat.

Absolutely. The three colors makes her a calico even though she is predominantly black and white.

Did you know that calicos are females? It's a sex-linked trait.

No. A calico has patches of color all over, not just small amounts on tips of ears, etc. You would know if she's a calico because the color patches are so obvious.
