Computer Upgrade or New Computer?
For all those extremely Information Technology literate people out there I would like your advice.
I bought my computer about 6 years ago for study purposes (so it has Windows XP) and have kept it in extremely high, pristine condition. I now need to use my computer to access internet and download things, but not sure which direction to go.
Do you think I can get away with doing a few upgrades (to make it faster), and get a network and graphics card or do you think that I would be better off getting a new computer?
I spent a small fortune buying the one I have at the moment and would hate to replace it considering it is still in good working order, but I know that sometimes you are only as good as the technology you have .... so I thought I would ask for other opinions on what I should be doing?

Depends what kind of build you have. If it's a name brand (ex. Dell, HP, etc.) then get a new one, because you won't be able to upgrade graphics on the majority of them. Custom builds are extremely easy to upgrade though, and are always worth upgrading unless every single part is obsolete.

If your using it just to access internet and download, maybe an additional hard drive would be fine.
Everything pretty cheap now, you can easily get a decent computer for a few hundred.
I also spent a fortune years ago on my computer, recently built my own computer which is heaps faster but costs heaps less.
You can easily get away with upgrading but it can only go so far, and if you want to do more with your computer then what you've described to me so far then buying a new system would be better and keep in mind your current system is old, it will die eventually and upgrading is limited to the scarce items that actually match with your system.

Put your current computer on advertisement or Ebay and sell it. Use that money and money you already have to custom build your own computer. I don't suggest buying a new computer from tecn stores as they are very expensive. If you visit your local computer technician store or whatever they can probably build you a PC that suits you at a decent price.

With the way technology is advancing buying a new computer is always the best option.

If you play the new 3D action games move to a new computer. If you just use for study & the internet the one you have is just fine.
