installing wall tile around bathtub?
i am replacing my bathtub with a drop in jacuzzi the same size as the bath tub. i also shower in it, so i want to install 12 by 12 sheets of tile around the tub. i was wondering if i should install the tile first or after the jacuzzi is installed.

If you look at most all installation articles and even your installation guide to the jacuzzi, it will call for a finished surface 1st and the jacuzzi to set atop the finished surface in a bed of mortar.. Then a caulk seal is put around the tub edge..
If you tile last, any water that gets on the out side has more of a potentail to leak past. Plus no one mentions that after a short time after you ve grouted uo to that edge, the grout line will crack from water weight and the vibration or the jacuzzi.
This also complies with both ATC and TCA tile hand book guide lines.

Just make sure you are installing the tile on cement backer board since you shower in there. Drop tub in....cement backer board....then tile! Just be sure to cover the tub with cardboard and an old blanket to protect it while tiling.

You absolutely have to install the tub first. The cement backer board and the mosaic, (if it is mosaic), tile will lap below the installation lip of the tub.

I would have said tile first, but these web sites beg to differ.
