Do you think Obama should be bowing to other leaders?

I'm not quite as angry as other conservatives over this, but I think Obama should NOT be bowing to other world leaders. I know it's to show respect, but I think this is a bit much...

But I'm torn. I know he's showing what they consider respect but it almost looks like he's prostrating himself for another.

What do you think? Bow? Maybe a half-bow (like Danielsan in Karate Kid)? Handshake only?

When you are a guest in another country and you have manners you show respect for their culture and cultural forms of greeting - do you think the Chinese should bow to Obama and he shouldnt return the traditional greeting when he is in THEIR country, but should stand there like an uneducated unsophisticated ignorant person instead?

That would speak volumes for the USA and Americans wouldnt it? Ignorance and non acceptance of cultural differences and traditions is NOT the way to promote international goodwill for the USA

Most of the rest of the world does NOT use Americans cultural customs or forms of greeting so why would you want to start a meeting between leaders by insulting your host? This is one of the reasons Americans are disliked around the world, they think everyone should do things like the USA does but you are ONE country in opposition with over 200 other countries and their cultures and its unacceptable to everyone. Only western countries such as Canada, the UK, the USA etc shake hands, in many countries it is considered rude AND OFFENSIVE to touch another person in greeting

When in Rome .... do like the Romans do and the same thing goes for Asia

To a leader of a culture where a bow is a sign of RESPECT, then absolutely. Would you prefer going back to the way it's been of criticizing and alienating other world leaders?

Don't you think that there are more important things in the would that you could be focusing your attention and anger on?

Obama was bowing out of respect to the leader of a foreign nation.

Seriously, WHY are some of my fellow Americans so pissed about this?

I think he is doing what he considers is appropriate, and respecting their custom.

In Japanese culture, the more humble one is the more powerful and respected he/she is considered to be.

I think people need to read up on the culture before they fly off the handle.

He's twice the length of Akihito.

He had to fold himself in two to have his eyes even with the Japanese.

Don't you have more important things to worry about? For instance, what are you going to eat tomorrow?
