when and how do I defrost my turkey?

When do I need to take it out of the freezer? and do I defrost it in the fridge or where? Please help. It is 14.5 pounds if you need to know that.

Put it into your fridge tonight or at least by tomorrow so it will be thawed by Wed. Place it in a pan, lasagna dish, or something that has at least short sides, so any juices that want to come out of the plastic don't drip all over your refrigerator.

Then on Wed. you can remove the neck and bag of gizzards and make your broth for the stuffing. Also rinse the bird out really well. Then refrigerate it covered (saran wrap or foil) overnight. Then Thanksgiving morning you can prepare the turkey for roasting.

    In the fridge: 2-3 days

Cold water method: 8-10 hours. Place your turkey still in the wrapping either in the sink or a 5 gallon water container and place a slow stream of water that is running the whole time. (we just use our sink) Even though the water is cold, its a lot warmer than the turkey and will safely defrost is faster than the fridge. Any other questions feel free to ask :)

I would take it out of the freezer and put into a roasting pan in the fridge Saturday afternoon at the latest, and allow 2-3 hours for it to come up to room temperature on Thursday.

As a guideline, for the future, allow 24 hours per 5lb.
