Can anyone explain to me why Christian fundamentalists make the most outrageous claims.?

For example:

"The ark, was built big enough and strong enough to hold 2 of every kind of animal, including dynosaurs. Looking at the dimensions, scientists have determined that it could hold all of them." - fundie quote

"Christianity has been proven scientifically." - fundie

"There are thousands of historical documents saying she was and I have the witness of the Spirit." - really dumb fundie [This fundie is asserting that there are thousands of documents that prove Mary was a virgin. LMAO!!!!!!!]

"Its obvious and science does nothing but continue to prove the existence of God." - fundie quote

"God's word is literal -- besides that Scientist are still puzzled why they are finding fossils 500 feet above sea-level !!" - fundie

"Sweden the most atheistic country in the world also has the highest amount of suicide?" - fundie

Update:

Are any of those assertions provable?

If they have been proven, is the opposite actually true?

I'm a Christian myself, and such quotes embarrass me.

Fundamentalism is not really a trust in God, but is a worship of their *theory* about an inerrant, concretely-literal bible.

They crave proof and certainty to prop up their belief system, and seem unable to walk in trusting faith or in intellectual honesty.

As far as I can tell, none of those assertions holds any water.

I hadn't heard most of those quotes. The only one I know much about (not a lot, I admit) is the one on fossils and sea level. They clearly do not understand that fossils do not have to form below sea level at all, there are a lot of variables in that. Also, come to think of it, the dimensions of the ark aren't all that big, so that one is truly bogus. I think it is very likely that every one of these claims has been pretty well proven false at one time or another.

Note: as a child of the 50's, raised on sexy lingerie, I like slips. And they are delightful in black. So I love your avatar!

I think they pull a lot of it out of the posterior region. I also think some preachers get their information from the same place. Unfortunately many fundies truly believe anything their preachers tell them. Then when they're told the correct information, they won't accept it.

    >Moderates choose to be advantageous and in basic terms be friendly with the international. regrettably, it incredibly is actual, that even nonetheless the way of life of the international is deadly, the moderates forget approximately approximately that and in basic terms be advantageous and friendly. it may be like somebody with maximum cancers. The moderates could forget approximately regarding the main cancers, or maybe deny that the main cancers exists, and in basic terms be advantageous and friendly to the detriment of the main cancers sufferer. is this "love", to enable them to die without attempting to help them replace into properly?! The fundamentalist could say, "whats up, chum. you have maximum cancers. permit's handle it and get rid of the main cancers so as which you have a greater effective life!" yet this genuine love is misconstrued as hate and intolerance. The Bible even says that this form of element could ensue ... and that's occurring.

The beauty of religion is that all claims are true simply by virtue of someone making them. The funny thing is that some of these oddballs believe that their claims about science will also be true for the same reason. Since these people do not, and cannot, think, it is no use trying to tell them how silly they sound.

Outrageous claims are the result of outrageous ignorance and a willingness to repeat whatever issues from the mouth of the designated prophet without any hesitation originating in a capability of independent thought.

Well, these are people who try to say with a straight face that the original Christians (Catholics) weren't actually Christians at all.

Never mind practically every history book ever written confirms this is utter nonsense, they continue to perpetuate the stupidity.

I don't think any one group has cornered the market on outrageous claims. I'm not a fundamentalist nor do I agree with them doctrinally on many issues, but let's be honest, a lot of people just repeat or paraphrase what they've read or heard without much thought or research. I've seen so many outright lies and misrepresentations from both sides of the coin.

My Law School friend told me about the "Clean Hands Doctrine" that says when you bring a matter to court claiming to have been treated unfairly, you must also be innocent of any wrongdoing in said matter.

I think they've just completely given up even trying to pretend they're interested in facts. They figure that if they have nothing but b/s to offer, they might as well just jump in with both feet and give the biggest, grandest b/s they can muster.

    Gorgeous,

Please remember that some of those who you care about are also considered as Fundamental Christians. I am among that group. I believe that the BIBLE is GOD'S Inspired WORD and that HE created all things. I am certain that you do not believe those to be true but we still get along very well without throwing things at one another and treat one another as "siblings". I hope that your Thanksgiving was as good as ours was. Have a great week.

    Thanks,

    Eds

    Uncle Wayne,

I am preaching about half of the sermons at the church where we are now attending. I also love teaching from what CHRIST had to say and do so whenever I am able. Have a great week.

    Thanks again,
