8√54 - 4√6 = 24√6 - 4√6 = 20√6
2√24 + 4√54 + 5√96 = 2√24 + 12√6 + 10√24 = 4√6 + 12√6 + 20√6 = 36√6

You can't add or subtract these terms unless they are "like" terms In this case, that means that the numbers under the square root sign have to be the same.
Example:
Cannot add:
2â6 + 3â5
Can add:
2â6 + 3â= 5â6
So to solve the problems you have, factor the numbers under the square root sign to find any perfect squares. Once you bring the square roots of the perfect squares to the outside, the numbers that are left might be like terms with the other terms.
Add 8â54 - 4â6
Step One: Factor
8â9x6 - 4â6
Step Two: Bring the square root of 9 to the outside
(3x8)â6 - 4â6
24â6 - 4â6
Step Three: Combine like terms
20â6
-------------------------------------
Add 2â24 + 4â54 + 5â96
Step One: Factor to find any perfect squares
2â4x6 + 4â9x6 + 5â16x6
Step Two: Bring the square roots to the outside
(2x2)â6 + (3x4)â6 + (4x5)â6
4â6 + 12â6 + 20â6
Step Three: Add like terms
36â6

1. 54=6*9=2*3^2. Take the 3 out. Then simplify by rationalizing the denominators. GO!

Use your calculator to find the square roots
8 times square root of 54 , then subtract 4 times the square root of 6
etc.
