The average heat cycle for the Pit Bull lasts approximately 21 days and usually occurs two times a year. Their first heat cycle is at around 6 months of age although some dogs may not have their first heat until they’re nine or 10 months, this is common on larger breeds. Don’t be concerned if your dog hasn’t had her first heat right at 6 months. This is just the “average” each dog is different depending on the breed and size.

They say 6 months, but that is a general idea.

It's no younger than 6 months on the whole.

But each dog is different. Often depends on breed, size, weight and actual dog itself.

My Springer didn't come into season till about 13 months?

The first sign of a female (Dam) coming "Into Season" is often swelling of the Vulva. This swelling can occur a week before bleeding, or the day before. Other signs of heat are behavioral changes, your Dam may start to hump other dams, or pups or even your leg. She may also begin to lick her self a lot. If you own more than one dam, they will usually cycle together, One dam in heat, will bring other dams into heat. A Female, should NEVER be bred on her first heat,(she has immature eggs) and preferably not her second either. The rule of thumb that works best is to breed on the third season, or at 1.5 to 2 years old, and after all health tests have been passed.

Smaller breeds have been known to come in as early as 6 months, 9- 11 months is the norm. Some larger breeds at a year +

usually between 6 months to a year. Some may have their first earlier, some even later. Just like women, they are all different.

If you have her fixed then you will not need to worry.
