Defroster in my car not working?

When I go out to my car in the morning and there is frost on the window, I always turn on my car to warm it up while I scrape it. While the defroster helps to melt some of the ice, on the inside, it fogs up the window and it seems to take a REALLY long time to go away. It didn't used to do this. Is there something wrong with my car? I have a 1999 Honda Civic, so it's not a new car, but it still runs REALLY well, despite this minor blip. Is this something I need to have a mechanic look at ASAP or is it the cars age or what?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Update:

It is blowing out warm air, unless I turn it to cool, in which case it blows out cool air. I don't see any obstructions.

Update 2:

I'm not a smoker and never have been. The car is not smoker "friendly" so no, no smoke. I cleaned the windows a few weeks ago, thinking it had just been too long since they were washed, but alas, that only made it worse.

The defroster uses heat from the heater coil routed though the dashboard vents, and the compressor from the A/C acting as a dehumidifier to remove moisture from the air inside the car. A failed condenser could cause moisture to collect on the inside of the windshield.

Another possible cause is low coolant. If not enough coolant is circulating though the heater coil, the system will blow cold air for a while. This will delay the defrosting process.

Is warm air blowing from the defroster ducts?

    Foreign object blocking ducts??

It could be a problem with the heater cables or vacuum hoses controlling defroster door on heater box.

    Low coolant??

This question makes me wonder a couple of things ; has the car been smoked in and is your defroster s heat as high as it will go temp wise.

Kim Possible doesn't know what she's talking about.

It always takes awhile for the windows to FULLY defrost, especially when it's really cold outside. You also have to take into account that when you breathe, your also fogging up the windshield.

Could be a number of things but it sounds like your condenser is out and a mechanic can have you one on in an hour or less!
